Authentic Smoked Basmati Rice by Khazana in 10 lb Bag - Aromatic and Flavorful Indian Grain - Non-GMO, Gluten Free, Kosher, Cholesterol Free

This rice has become our favorite. It goes with many dishes and tastes great. The smoky flavor is not as strong as the way it smells in the uncooked state. Be sure to rinse it before cooking. You can add salt and/or a small amount of oil, but don’t really need to. Wish it were less pricey, and more available in local markets, that would make it perfect.

I LOVE this rice. Other smoked rices I've tried smelled amazing out of the bag, but you couldn't taste smoke at all once it was cooked. Not the case here! It retains that smoke flavor with cooking and really heightens any dish you make with it. It's also just a really high quality rice. It cooks up beautifully in my rice cooker and comes out light and delicate. Highly recommend.

Prepared it in my inexpensive red Aroma Rice Cooker (with the single button you press down).Rinse, then soak the rice for at least 30 minutes prior.1) one cup rice2) two cups water3) one teaspoon or less of Better Than Bouillon Chicken4) one tablespoon California Olive OilSingle origin California Reserve Arbosana Extra Virgin Olive Oil tastes decidedly better than the blends.5) When the cooker pops up to low temp (water boiled away), take the inner pot of rice out of the cooker immediately, and place on a cooling rack for ~ 10 minutes.6) Do not remove the lid, because the rice will continue to absorb moisture. Per "anonymous internet lady", this prevents the rice from burning on the bottom and sticking to the inner pot. Makes clean up easier too.Khazana Premium Smoked Basmati Rice cooks up perfectly fluffy every time.After the rice is cooked, add some shredded (raw) carrot for a striking color contrast, with crunch.Tastes superb with just a little butter and soy sauce (Muso Shoyu) mixed in just before serving. Good way to reheat leftovers.

Very bad smoke taste disgusting

There was a time when rice was often smoked to control pest infestations via tiny insect eggs that can hatch during storage. This still happens with some US or imported rice that is stored in a warm location, unless you freeze it for 2 days when you get it home. Look for tiny beetles in the bottom of the container.Today I find the exotic aroma of sweet smoke enhances the dish. It is A VERY MILD subtle smoke aroma that will dissipate if not stored air tight. Some of these rice grains cook to 3/4 inch in length! The price will be high for a while until India has another good rice harvest.If global warming increases, this product may never be exported again.I never bother to rinse it and there is no reason to soak it first.It is illegal to sell GMO rice anywhere on Earth, that is only available for free to certain countries with malnutrition. Now that you know it is not legally sold anywhere, what do you think about the fear mongering lies of the organic industry's implications that there might be something bad about GMO crop science?? The organic industry spends $3 billion a year on propaganda, which is why it costs so much more for organic. Please boycott ALL foods with the 'Non-GMO' label.

This was my first time having smoked rice. I am happy I bought the rice, as it’s a nice change from my norm. When you open the bag, the rice has an overly strong scent of smoke, but after I soak the rice or 30 minutes, and then cook it, the aroma of smoke is toned down to a very good level.This rice is a nice addition to change things up, when wanted. Very good with butter and salt.I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because the grains are not as long as other varieties of basmati rice. However, the value for money is spot on. Just look at other smoked rice prices....

Smoked rice is hard to find. So glad to find it on Amazon.
