Good preparation
I just passed the CLEP with a 73My background in math is limited. I got up to “precalculus” and trigonometry in high school 14 years ago and tested out of algebra going into college. I was a music major so I took no more math in my collegiate career. Within the past 9 months, I have completed both over 90% of algebra 1 and 2 on khan academy. I can’t recommend that site enough if you feel you are shaky on some algebraic concepts.Like other reviewers, I took the diagnostic test and both practice tests. I got a 30% on the diagnostic, 76% on test 1 and a 53% on test 2. I found the wording in the problems of the practice tests to be a bit confusing. It was like they were trying to trip you. Upon review, I appreciated the increased difficulty because it forced to cement some more abstract concepts. Additionally I reviewed all of the practice problems in the book. I also took the college board practice exam and go a 63% and scored a a 73%, and two 93% on all of the Peterson’s online practice tests. I used study.com, but found the practice test riddled with errors and got a 70%I say all of this so prospective buyers can triangulate where they might need to focus there attention. After each test, I made flash cards for every question I got wrong and then put the answer explanation on the back. I continuously reviewed all of these questions until I was sure I understood all the concepts.I found the diagnostic and practice exams in this book to be more difficult than the actual CLEP itself. While my memory is fresh, I found that the CLEP was more consistent with what I saw on the Peterson’s practice test. Most of the CLEP questions I saw were very straight forward. There were maybe 2-3 questions that required some abstract reasoning. With that being said, I appreciated the thoroughness of this book. I found it to be the most comprehensive of all the study materials because of the detailed answer explanations. This is a good buy to supplement your study for the test.

5 STARS from High School Math Teacher
I am using as a guide to teach a high school prep course for preparation for the CLEP College Algebra test. I find it comprehensive and easy to use. Also, includes codes for online practice test (I have not used yet).

I've Just begun to study it but I like what I've seen so far. I'm studying this book so I can test out of College Algebra and on to Trigonometry and Calculus.

I passed the algebra test watching YouTube
Recommend 3/5It is way advanced than the actual test. You don’t need that much depth for the Clep algebra. Don’t depend on this only because the layout does not match the real test at all. This is for preparing you. I did understand rules better from this book and practiced log problems and reading the x, y axis. Don’t even try the practice test, it will bring you to another direction. The real Clep has more logical problems and much easier than this. This is more for nerds

MISTAKES, ERRORS, INEXCUSABLE IN MY OPINION - KINDLE VERSION
Publishers need to have editors that check the book for accuracy. It is hard to learn math if you are presenting solutions with mistakes. If something looks wrong to you, just do a google search and check it or ask a friend good in math. There is a website mathway.com where you can check for solutions to math problems. I guess I'm still learning from the book though, I paid the $15 so I'm stuck using it, but it would be great if one day I could get a math book that didn't have mistakes. For instance, they teach you the difference between bracket [ and parentheses ( when writing domains and ranges of functions so for them to then use the wrong one when stating the range for the graph of y = √x is just what makes this book deserve one star. I was printing some of these graphs to save as reference material because they said there were common functions you would see over and over again so would be best to try to remember them so I figured I'll print these, but even the graph of this equation was so poorly displayed, I also had to go find one on the internet and print that out instead. The curve was not drawn to any accuracy whatsoever to truly look like they were graphing that equation. Just terrible. So have some faith in yourself, you just might be the one that is correct if you think something in the book is wonky and I don't know if kindle differs from printed copies. For the range they put (0,∞) when it should have been identical to the domain: [0,∞). There's been at least 3 mistakes I've come across and I'm only 30% thru the material so I find that unacceptable. And also be aware that this is pretty much a cursory review of the topics and if you are totally new to this type of math, or it has been ages and ages, you may want to get a full fledged college algebra textbook, or at least look up math videos on like Khan Academy, mathisfun.com etc. any time you feel like there isn't enough background being provided. I like Khan because after you watch a video, they give you a quiz and make you feel like a champ if you do well on it. Also, as you go thru the topics there's very few examples given and not really section of practice exercises per chapter that most math books have. The main practice will just be attempting the practice exams at the end.
