I got a great deal on a dual processor (LSI SAS2208 Chip) external 8-port Raid controller.I used two of these to route the cable back through a open case slot to the backplane on my server case. A one meter cable is sometimes available on Amazon and would be better, but 2 meters works OK if the price is better.

Works perfectly going from an internal SAS port on an HP p410 controllers to an external 12 bay enclosure...
