Let me tell you about the absolute legend of a rat trap I bought—the Chuck Norris of pest control. I set it up thinking, “Maybe I’ll catch a little squeaker.” What I got instead? A rodent so massive I thought I’d accidentally snared a possum in a rat costume. This trap didn’t just catch the rat—it humbled it. I heard the snap from across the house, followed by what I swear was the sound of tiny rodent regrets. I walked over expecting a normal pest situation. Nope. This thing looked like it had been bench-pressing bricks and stealing protein powder from the pantry. Its tail alone could’ve doubled as a jump rope. The trap held firm. No bending, no breaking, no dramatic escape scene. Just one very surprised rat and one very smug me. I half expected the trap to start glowing and whisper, “You’re welcome.” Pros: Built like a tank Triggered faster than my grandma spotting a sale Caught a rat that could’ve paid rent Cons: Now I’m slightly afraid of what else it might catch. Small dog? Neighborhood raccoon? My hopes and dreams? Final verdict: If you’ve got rats that look like they’ve been hitting the gym, this trap is your MVP. Five stars and a standing ovation. Total junk. The trigger is difficult to even set and no matter what, is not sensitive enough. The bait will be pulled off with no effect. And the trigger is cheap plastic. I bought two and the trigger pads did not last even two days before the tensions ripped both of them off. And then the rats hauled them away as prizes. The catch arm FEELS strong enough, but never got to prove it. About the only positive is they look nice,…if you want to mount them as wall art.

First night, caught a rat, read on though... First I tried it humanely with the catch and release cages (they were too smart for that). So one thing led to another, and I bought these, at the same time (for comparison) I bought some sticky rat traps. The wooden traps caught one within probably about 15 minutes to a half an hour of setting it. I thought there was only one rat, about a week later, another started showing up less frequently than the other. Tried every kind of bait, didn't take. Eventually there was poison laid out and within a few days there was a rotten stench coming from the known location, no activity afterwards. Pros: - Affordable compared to Vector traps - Worked, easy to used, caught a rat within MINUTES of setting it, I'd say 15-30 minutes - Relatively easy to stick snickers or kit-kat on the pad with that little spike, it doesn't take much force to set the traps, but be careful, they can hurt your fingers if you snap these on them. Cons: Not much, after about 3 snaps the wood starts splitting, so they're not as good as the old vector traps I used to see and use Overall: Four stars because of construction quality, but would still recommend for relatively large rats, like New York sized brown rats, definitely work better than the sticky rat traps

Although it is call Big Foot, it is more than capable of dispatching both medium sized mice, and small rats. (Body length of 4-6 inches.) I have it set on a shelf in my chicken coop, the feed draws the rodents, and it works like a charm! UPDATE: The newer version of this trap is nowhere near as good. Harder to set the mechanism, and pretty much just like a regular old-time mouse trap. The older version had a "hair trigger" that aligned with the hook, this new one hooks in to the bait flap and torques the springs too much. Hard to get the flap to get in the correct position. AND I can buy the old timey big traps at the grocery store for half the price.
