What does this do that the Bonavita doesn't do for half the price? I have the Bonavita and performance is excellent.

I've had my Moccamaster KBT since 2007. I've used it at home and I brought it to work where we were brewing at least 2 pots a day sometimes 3 for 3 years straight. When I left that job I took my Moccamaster KBT home with me and I use it at home I brew fewer pots but it works like it did when it arrived in 2007 (same components no repairs). I wash it out with water and vinegar every few months. It's actually gone up in price in 2007 I paid $240 CAD for it.

Is this the best drip coffee maker? Would I need a Baratza Vario grinder to go with it? How is the taste?

In many years of coffee drinking, I have not found 'one best drip coffee maker.' This is a fine and useful coffee maker for 'pot of coffee' lovers. I DO strongly recommend 'burr grind' coffee mills and my favorite in the last few years is a Breville model. I can usefully change the coarseness/fineness of the grind...and I believe the grind has as much to do with fine flavored coffee as does the blend and the roast . Get that right, and 'drip', 'press', 'espresso pressure machine' becomes a matter of personal taste or of an interest in varied expressions of a blend of coffee beans.

Does anyone use a reusable filter? Is their a difference with gold tone plated and gold plated?

What is the linside lining of the thermos made of?

They recently updated the thermal carafe and it is now lined with glass, according to Moccamaster customer service.
