Some what grumpy account
An interesting account of sailing round Britain. The author went anti clockwise which at least on the east coast is against the predominant currents.there were lots of complaints about the bugs in green diesel, fit a filter. The growth of wind farms , be realistic there is still plenty of sea to sail. And the lack of marinas, demand will help that. When he go to the south coast he was much happier because he was on familiar ground.Interesting book but too angst ridden.I’m sailing from Ipswich to Inverness in late April to early May this year. I will try to avoid the authors pitfalls.

Interesting and seems the overalltone changes around the island
Lots of interesting points and good effort by the sailor.Seems to be quite grumpy narrative at the beginning for the head north section and notably the mood lifts as the boat heads towards a more southern direction.

Superbly written
Considering the author was not a writer by trade, this book is incredibly good at making you feel you are on all the voyages he makes.I bought this for my Father who loved it and ordered himself another copy (sort of like buying the author a pint to thank him for the tale) I loved it. Thanks Mr Sturgess, your book is amazing.

Avoid this book if your thinking its a source for you to learn about sailing around Britain
One of the few times ever I wish I had 'listened' to the one star reviewes. The best part of the book is the bit you can read in the preview offered by Amazon. After that its jut is not worth the effort. The 'i'm right and everything and everyone else is wrong' style just irritates from the start of the pages that are not in the preview. It is shocking the amount of prejudiced and ignorance of Northern England and Scottish culture that issues from the page. It boarders on being racist and would be if it was another culture. Personally I think this style is set there to distract from the possibility that this journey was never actually sailed. A total lack of any kind of decent description of the east coast sailing and the descriptive of the Caledonian canal is limited to 'locks are manned, but don't open on demand' and 'no mooring buoys' .If your looking for a book to help you think about your own circumnavigation avoid this book there is no useful information in it and you will be wasting you money - there are a lot better sources out there, including articles posted on cruising club websites. If your looking for a book that lists how many showers someone has - it might be for you.

Negative, reminded me of the stereotypical moaning and overly opinionated taxi driver
To sum this up it's someone going around Britain and complaining about everywhere they go. Author comes across as being against other UK nations other than England, but I was surprised then that he just moaned about England too 🤣🤣 No real sailing knowledge gained from it. Although in theory it's a good plan. Just feel a bit sad for the guy that he's so angry, dislikes the place he lives so much. I wouldn't bother with it.I did enjoy some of his rants

Great log and sometimes curmudgeonly commentary of a sailor’s cruise around Britain. Loved it!
Most enjoyable read. A different approach to circumnavigating Britain by approaching it as a series of day sails. Not a pilot book but a sailor’s log of his voyages and observations. He laments the decline of coastal industry, the lack of celebrating the past and the impact of today’s wind turbines and other ugly modern structures on our beautiful landscapes. He bemoans in some coastal areas at the lack of proper facilities for the visiting recreational sailor and contrasts the poor planning by local authorities and government with the good. He intersperses his observations with interesting local history from the places he stops at. Of course his sail and book date from 2007 which was the worst possible summer in history. He might be forgiven for some of his “Victor Meldrew” commentary. After 10 years some things may have even changed for the better. Perhaps he might do a sequel? I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Opinionated bore moans, sorry, sails around part of Britain
Nice simple two dimensional narrative of a yacht trip around most of Britain. Good and useful for anyone intending to do the same. Shame the author is privileged, southern, right wing, poorly educated (weak grasp on how the British Isles were settled, when and by whom) and prone to complaining.
