Ok guide, but not for budget travelers
On the plus side, this guide does give a relatively comprehensive overview of the top sites to visit in Switzerland and some good cultural notes. However, I found the book to be lacking in practicality as an on-the-go travel book. For me, one of the most useful tools in a good travel guide is the recommendation of the authors on food and lodging choices...where you can get the most bang for your buck. Fodors chose to include lots of very expensive hotels in this--for instance, multiple hotels in the 850CHF per night range, which translates to over $900USD per night. For some people, that information may be helpful, but it just wasn't useful for us. I would hope that wherever you're going, if you plan on spending $900 a night, you should get a pretty darn nice hotel room, and honestly, I shouldn't need Fodors to tell me that will be a nice place. On the other end of the scale, options in this book were pretty limited. We had better luck and found very nice, cheaper hotels by either searching on a hotel booking website or simply wandering around until we found a place. Not once did we use one of the Fodors lodging recommendations.Restaurant recommendations were similar...lots on the upper end of the price scale, not so much for budget-conscious travelers. Switzerland is an expensive country to visit, but it can be done for a lot cheaper than Fodors might lead you to believe. We had a Rick Steves book for when we were in Germany, and we found it to be very useful. We managed to get hotel rooms in out if the way places that we never would have gone without that book. Quite honestly, I really wish that we hadn't wasted the $17.99 on this book and bought the Rick Steves book for Switzerland instead.

High-End Recommendations Galore!
This is a comprehensive guide to Switzerland and is even-handed in the way it emphasizes the various regions and cities. There is a distinct emphasis upon high-end dining and lodging, which is fine if the is in your budget. The maps were not quite as helpful as those in other travel guides that I've used, but overall it is a very good single-book for this country.

Great book - helped immensely
I carred this with me everywhere and the tips that we used were right on. We didnt have time to travel all the way South into Italy, but i wanted to practive my Italian, so we went into Bellinzona and it felt like we were in another country. Hardly and tourists (just like the book said) and we hiked up to the restaurant it mentioned and all went great and we had a lovely time!

I always use Fodor's!
I think Fodor's guides are the best. I like how it is broken up into regions/cities and gives walking tours and other ideas. And the color photos are great. Also there is info on currency, weather, etc....excellent extra bits to use when planning a vacation. I definitely think I'm going to use the Zurich walking tour mapped out in this guide. A great comprehensive Switzerland guide!

Would prefer nothing on cost of attractions, etc..
Co.gained some good info. However we are purchasing another travel book for Switerland that offers more better info on pricing of attractions, restaurants etc.. We. Do not have unlimited financial resources so we need more specific info in order to plan our travels.
