Don't Need the Pole
I purchased the STAUBER Gripper & Large Suction combo without the STAUBER pole and it turned out I didn't need the pole! I just unscrewed the broom handle from my everyday household broom, and screwed it into the STAUBER Gripper/Suction cup attachments and it worked perfect! I have 9-ft. ceilings and the broom handle was long enough to do the job! When I was done, I screwed the broom handle back into the broom and stored the STAUBER light bulb changer attachments where I keep my light bulbs. Simple & Easy. Very Pleased. The suction cup attachment didn't adhere that well to the light bulb without dampening the surface a little bit, and I had to put pressure on it to get it to stick, but once I got it to adhere, it stuck on there pretty strongly and did the job. I needed the suction cup attachment for my R20 recessed flood lights as there is no room whatsoever to get your fingers or anything else around the bulb to unscrew it. (Duct Tape works too, but the suction cup was much easier to use than the duct tape.) And then I used the STAUBER gripper to change my BR30 recessed flood lights. Piece of cake!I'm very happy I got this light bulb changer! I don't need to drag out the ladder anymore, and I don't need to ask my husband when he gets time (if he ever gets time) to help me anymore! But, I will probably still get the ladder out for the recessed lights in the kitchen though because they get a lot dirtier from the cooking oils and need a deeper cleaning by time the light bulb goes out than the duster can do.

Excellent design and quality
Excellent design; the gripper worked great for installing Cree PAR30L LED bulbs. We had numerous bulbs to install in recessed cans in a 19' ceiling. There's very little clearance between the bulb and the side of the can, but the low-profile design of the gripper fit just fine, and in fact helped with guiding the bulb toward the socket (which is quite an adventure when it's at the end of a long pole). We used the suction cup to remove the old halogen bulbs. It grips very strongly, and releases easily with the strap. It's nice that the included cord resists tangling. We used the dusting cover on the suction cup to clear cobwebs from one of the cans, but otherwise didn't bother to dust the bulbs before removing them. Both of these fit well on a standard extension pole. The thumb screw design on both of these attachments is a great design: the metal screw threads through a metal nut (which is held captive by the plastic). This keeps the attachment from spinning on the pole, and the metal nut can take more pressure than if the threads were simply in the plastic.

It's everything it claims to be.
If you read the description, they claim this product to be over-engineered and well built. Let me tell you, they are very correct! We have a banquet center with 135 can lights in a 14 foot ceiling. It is a pain to change them. I've used many pole changers in the past and they all were fairly effective, but poorly built and had limitations. This unit is incredible!

Skip the suction cup use the gripper
I bought a doca pole and it came with a suction cup just like in this one. I was trying to change two outdoor lights that are each very high. One of them is about 24' up and the other is about 18' but angled so you have to further out in order to reach it with the pole. The attachments that came with the pole were garbage. I tried the suction cup which doesn't work on flood lights that are for outdoors because they are textured and the suction cups just don't seem to work for light bulbs.I bought this for the gripper and was able to change both lights in under 30 minutes. It's still a bit tricky because I have the pole extended so much and the tip sways even when the end your holding is still. Removing the bulbs was much easier and you do have to have a slight amount of pressure onto the bulb/fixture in order for it to grip and turn in either direction. Once the bulbs were out replacing them was a bit more difficult. Getting the light bulb lined up with the socket takes a bit of work because from standing straight out you can't see the socket through the bulb you are trying to install. It's helpful with two people so one can stand to the side and tell you where you need to go but is definitely possible by yourself as well. If you are trying to figure out how to change PAR bulbs that are high up and don't want to get a ladder to climb to the top of your house, this is the way to go. I would easily buy this again. The packaging was very poor but everything came and was not broken. Even if this broke tomorrow I would buy it again the next time I needed to change a tall light. I suggest replacing with LED bulbs so you hopefully never have to again...

It Works
We had a spotlight positioned where we could not get to it without risking breaking brittle old roofing or suffering a bad fall. I tried other things, but they didn't work. I tried this and the light was out and replaced in five minutes, only needing a little inward pressure to break the grip of 15 years corrosion. Inserting a new bulb was even easier. If you've got a bulb in a position you can't get at this is the way to go.

Got my job done
The gripper was the right tool for my high spotlights (suction didn't stick at all on them). Takes a bit of skill and dropped a couple of bulbs in the process but got the job done.
