Hapkido: An Introduction to the Art of Self-Defense Review: Good Intro - Overall it is a good intro to the much bigger book. If you don't want to fork over a good amount of money for a large book this is what you should get. It covers the general points of Hapkido, and goes into enough details that you would be happy with it. It shows a handful of techniques for different attacks, the different parts of the hand and foot to strike with and general way of how to strike with those according to Hapkido style. Review: GreatHapkido book - I must say this is one of the best Martial Arts books published, in my opinion. I gave it to an Hopkido instructor as a gift. Accepted very well. There are voulumes of illustrations, very detail. It's great as a reference book, there is much to learn. This book will help you. Recommended.

A good introduction to Hapkido
This is a very good book for anyone interested in learning Hapkido. It explains the basics of the art very well, but doesn't cover many details. Besides its relative lack of complexity, my only other complaint is that this book seems to be just one big ad for the larger and more complete version.

Beginner
My background is in Taekwondo. I know that Hapkido is an extension of that and I wanted to teach myself. So, this book is a great start for me. For those that study martial arts...never stop growing or improving yourself.

Great information

Great book! But one thing to keep in mind is that this only shows a selection of Hapkido techniques from different belts. If you are after a book that shows a comprehensive list and demonstration of techniques (handy for a white belt who is just starting out who wants some reference material to help you remember the techniques, like me) then this book probably won't be of that much help. Whilst I haven't read it myself (yet), I am told that 'Hapkido: Traditions, Philosophy and Technique', also written by Marc Tedeschi, does offer the comprehensive breakdowns of all techniques for all belts. The only other issue I have is that it could be a little more detailed, specifically with the release from hand grads.

Clearly written and expertly photographed by the author of the landmark Hapkido: Traditions, Philosophy, Technique, this unique book is essential reading for anyone seeking a concise, honest, and accurate overview of Hapkido's history, philosophy, and techniques.
