I really like this safe but unfortunately it is not mechanically sound
If you search for the video "Opened With a Notebook: ShotLock Handgun “Solo-Vault", you'll discover that this style of safe has a critical failure that allows anyone to open the safe without the combination or key when dropped on its corner. I reached out to the company to see if they had solutions but have yet to receive a response about this issue. So unfortunately I have to recommend staying far away from this product and potentially discarding the product if you already own it.It really is a shame too because this product has so many things to like about it.

Nice product overall, but my lock doesn't work as it should.
This is a solid little vault overall. I purchased this for use in my car and am happy with the solid construction and layout of the product. The interior is as advertised and comes lined with a felt like material which is really nice. I purchased a piece of foam to put in the vault to better protect my gun from moving around while traveling. My only issue with this product is the lock. I am a huge fan of the mechanical lock with a key backup as I don't care to own electronic locks if I can avoid them. I initially set my code with the initial number being a "1" followed by 3 other numbers and the lock would open MOST of the time (this could be a major issue obviously). I then recently decided to change the code to a number I use for a few other items/passwords in my home and there is where I found a problem. When you change the code (fairly simple process) you put the little keys in to the slots of the numbers you would like to use as your code in a specific sequence designated by letters A thru D. When I move the A key to any number other than a "1" or a "3" the combination absolutely will NOT open the lock. When I put the A key back into the "1" slot followed by any other sequence of numbers, it works fine for the most part. This is not optimal and the reason I'm taking off 2 stars. I would give it a 2.5 stars if I could. The actual key itself works perfectly fine, but I wanted this to work with the mechanical lock in case I ever needed the weapon in a hurry. I suspect I just got a vault with a faulty lock and the majority are fine, but mine does not work as it should. To that end, I have just programmed the code with a number "1" as my first number and make sure I have my key readily available. I do have two other home vaults made by a different manufacturer that use simplex locks and they work flawlessly - and have for years. By the time I realized my lock did not work properly, I had already discarded all the boxes that came with the product so returning it may not be worth the trouble. If you get a vault that works as it should, then this is a great product, but I'm not in love with mine.

Awesome little quick access safe - *!*11 Month update*!*
I bought this for transporting and for night stand access my Springfield XD Mod 2 4" Service Model. For overall room, I could probably fit 2 if not 3 of these pistols in here without any foam. I have mine set up so when it opens the pistol is in a ready to grab position. The box itself is well built, has a nice durable crinkle like finish on it, and a nice velour like fabric on the inside. Everything about this safe is pretty well built and its a solid option for those of you who dont want to spend $200 on the Fort knox options or other simplex style mechanical safes.Something neat about this lock is that you can stage it, you have a 4 number combination, say 4321. If you press 4,3,2 and leave it, you only need to push 1 to be able to actuate the knob and open it. If you push any other number but the correct number, the entered combination will reset. My gripesExternal hinge - could be cut or ground off, not sure if it will completely pop open though.Door requires light loading to open-if there is any pressure pushing on the door from the inside, the lock wont release, youll have to gently push, then turn the dial.Combination - 1 through 8, no repeating numbers, no 9, no 0. Since the combination is set by moving physical keys in the lock assembly, you cant do something like 1123 or 1231, it must be 1234--UPDATE 1.2.2019--Still love this safe, buying a second one today for permanent mounting in the bedroom. First one still going strong with no significant problems.

Worth every penny.
Works great however the odd time I have to reenter the pin for it to open. I dont know it that's operator error or not. But worth every peeny fits a 9mom with laser on it and 4 loaded mags in it. Metal work on appears of great workmanship. Had it for years and opened it and closed it alot. Easy to figure out how to change combination.
