Impressive Quality! Not for super thick hair.
I own only 1 other 100% boars bristle brush. I bought it 40 years ago at Macy's for $20, at a time when you could buy a Conair brush for less than $1, so I only have the one to compare it to. First of all, this is MUCH softer bristles. My old brush has literally double the length bristles - 2 1/2 cm vs this one's roughly 1 1/2 cm. Boars must have had stiffer and longer bristles 40 years ago too, I like the not quite so scratchy stiff of this brush much better. My old brush scratches my scalp it's so stiff, and is still hard to get through the full mass of my straight thick hair, which is why I was looking for a softer brush, and did not have expectations of it reaching my scalp anyway.I was very impressed by the fact that most of these are uncut bristles, my old one also has uncut bristles, but they are stiffer and longer, and thus scratchier. I recall that cheap boar bristles have cut bristle ends, so that's a really nice and super high quality surprise. This it feels amazing on the scalp where I could reach, not painful at all (as with my original overpriced boar bristle brush). This brush is FULL of bristles, I would say over full, because most hair brushes, including other Mason Pearson's, only have 1/2 the bristles stuffed in this brush. I WISH some of the bristles would fall out of this, but they won't no matter how much rubbing I do. If you are losing some bristles, LUCKY YOU, I can't see that happening with mine. The quality of this is amazing, no question from looking at it that it is a lifelong brush. I don't know if it's solid wood or a veneer, only because I can't fathom how they can make a solid wood brush at this price. It does look like solid wood. I have no regrets purchasing it at all. While it won't actually reach my scalp on the thickest part of my hair, it does everywhere else. Would I buy this again? ABSOLUTELY. And probably will again for gifts around Christmas.Disclaimer: I paid FULL PRICE for this brush, and don't know a single person who works at this company (or Amazon for that matter), and have no idea how you people get discounts or freebies. I'd like some tho:)!! Lol.

What my hair needed and deserves.
I am so delighted with my brush! This has always been a luxury item to me, nothing I could afford, nothing anyone I knew had, but I knew they were the best and I've always wanted one. At age 72, I finally gave in and ordered one for myself. And I didn't use it, just continued using my plastic round brush because I was used to it. Well, my hair is getting thin and my round brush is always filled with my hair, and it shouldn't be. SO, I finally started using my wonderful boar-bristle brush and I am so pleased with it and grateful that I bought it! I can brush my hair now and there is no hair in the bristles! It's not pulling my hair out! It feels so soft and gentle, just nicely brushes my hair in place. It feels like a peaceful experience, not stressful. There's no yanking the brush through, it just flows gently. I love this brush, and I so wish I'd bought one years and years before I did, and that I'd used it when I finally got one! It was still too special, a luxury that I was saving. And now at 74, I feel so special to have this and grateful that I'll now be able to keep the hair I have left! I highly recommend this brush, to actually use this brush! It's wonderful.

Way better deal than a Mason Pearson
Was searching for a natural boar-bristle brush, akin to the famed Mason Pearson but without the astronomical price tag. ($200+ for a brush? For a non-hair-professional? No, thanks). Thankfully, after using this for a few weeks, I'm very satisfied with the results, and this fits the bill. My hair feels much softer, and my boyfriend noticed, too.Yes, you may need another brush/comb for detangling, if you have longer hair. I use a large paddlebrush first, with plastic teeth, to get out knots, then brush through repeatedly with the boar brush. The boar brush alone takes much longer to comb out tangles and knots. This is brilliant at distributing my natural sebum through my hair. I only use this brush when my hair is dry. When wet, I just stick with my comb or large paddlebrush. The only thing I'm disappointed with–and this may be true with the more expensive brushes, too, given the natural materials–is that the bristles come out. When I went to remove my old hair from the brush, out came nearly a dozen individual bristles. Hopefully this doesn't happen again! If anyone has recommendations for getting all your old hairs outta your brush without losing bristles, I'm all ears!Overall, this was good enough and I'm happy with the purchase, thanks!

Tired of Searching for something for finer, softer hair?
The old brush I had for at least a decade finally started coming apart. I was looking and looking for something that worked as well as my old brush. Being male with shoulder+ plus length, mildly wavy hair the normal stiff bristles attached to a solid wood handle was too strong.I bought this one taking a chance, but with little thought of matching the softness, yet ability to perform like old reliable, but I was desperate. Either find a brush or cut hair.Surprise, this brush does great. Soft curves, no tangle pulling and no feeling of having just dragged a fork through my hair.I am considering buying another so I'll have one to keep in my travel bag and double as a backup when this one gives out in a decade. No, I am not paid for this review. I am retired Fortune 20 Aerospace management. Don't need the pennies and do not sell my honest opinions. In fact, I waited about 6 months after I bought the brush to write this review to make sure it held up.If you are like me and tired of going to the hair section of every store trying to find a softer, yet 100% Boar bristle brush- go no further. This is a great brush for a great price.
