Buy it and save it. Great info. More concise than most med surg books used. This is the book that tells you what to do when shit goes wrong. Very detailed, but in a practical “I’m here to save lives” mentality. This is advanced compared to your med surg class. Instead if one chapter in your med surg book this is a whole book on it.This will help you be more competent in detecting when your patient is taking the turn for the worse if you work on med surg. Likely your patient will transfer to ICU, but perhaps not if you piece together the s/s soon enough.

Has been a very helpful textbook for me as someone who was previously a biology major before I went into nursing. Although I have only really thoroughly covered the first 10 chapters, I already appreciate its method of using more scientific terminology for laying the foundation of each chapter's concepts. Lists many helpful article references in each chapter and appears to have very few editing errors unlike other nursing textbooks I have read through. Good foundations textbook for ICU nursing concepts. Has really opened my eyes to concepts of pain control, sedation, and understanding the patient's perspective on their ICU stay. Thanks!

I rented this book on Amazon for a class. I loved it so much I turned around and bought it. I still use this book often. It is easy to read and understand, yet thoroughly extensive and in depth. This was my favorite book for all of nursing school. I wish I started my first semester with this book. It will definitely stay with me for the rest of my career.

Some of my classmates said this text was a bit over their heads, and they're probably right, but I found this to be a rich resource and served as a great book for my critical care course in my ADN program. Used it frequently as my main text resource and earned one of the 4 A's in the class!

I've used this book ever since I became an ICU nurse back in 2002! Bought the 4th-6th editions which were all hardcover. This 7th edition is not and I'm very disappointed. For the price, it SHOULD be!! Softcovers of a book this big tear, rip and bend easily. I expected a hardcover.It IS a good reference book for all adult ICU nurses. I highly recommend it just disappointed it's hot hardcovered.
