I've been mixing my sushi rice the hard way for a long time. This simple wooden tub allows easy mixing of the sushi rice and it cools off the rice faster. The wood smells great too. What I did first was wash the hangiri bowl out with mild dish detergent, then rinsed it thoroughly. Then I soaked it for 15 minutes in drinking water before using to prevent the rice from sticking. To my mind the sushi rice was both easier to make and also turned out perfect. Let's put it this way: our guests ate everything and not a rice kernel was left on the plates. If you like making sushi, then don't hesitate to buy one of these. The 13" one i got was perfect for making 3 cups of uncooked rice (+ 4 cups of water in rice cooker).

Wow. I’m not new to hangiri (sushi oke) and was looking for one that was on the small size. The wood used is beautiful, not stained or treated. The fit and finish is really excellent. Some are concerned that the bands around the hangiri are plastic, but for me, having had one with copper bands, I prefer the plastic. Don’t have to polish and I think they are going to stay in place better. This hangiri really surpasses my expectations for $20. So glad I didn’t buy a bamboo one (and the cheap included tools) that Amazon sells. Think after use the bamboo will smell, well like old bamboo and impart undesirable characteristics to my sushi rice. Saw a review of this product where some one used it as a salad serving bowl. Hahahah. This is open pored wood and is meant to help wick away some of the moisture while making sushi seasoned rice. Can’t imagine coating the wood with salad dressing and oil as that would render this gem useless for my purposes. This little hangiri worked really well when I used it and I’m excited to have such a quality tool for an amazingly low price.

This hangiri sushi rice mixing tub changed my cooking skills in making homemade sushi rice. I used a mixing bowl before, but this tub it’s truly a game-changer! I got the 10-inch tub perfect for mixing about 2 cups of cooked rice (1 cup dry rice), if possible go for a slightly larger size to accommodate the recommended 4 cups of cooked rice (2 cups dry rice), as it makes the mixing process even easier. USE: After several months of use, is still holding up well with no signs of breakage or discoloration. It’s well designed with a little weight to it, easy to handwash it without the need for soaking or scrubbing (dishwasher not recommended). SERVE: In addition to sushi rice, it’s great for preparing other types of rice dishes, such as brown rice, jasmine rice, quinoa, and various grains. I prefer to use it only with rice vinegar dressings/solutions to maintain its integrity. Furthermore, it’s a beautiful serving tub for sushi rolls and nigiri to add a Japanese theme to the dining experience. STORAGE: When not in use, the 10-inch hangiri tub fits neatly into a standard kitchen cabinet, either placed flat or sideways in a dollar tree wire organizer for storage. Overall, once you start using this hangiri tub, you'll never go back to using regular mixing bowls for rice preparation. Tools do make a difference! You will love it!

Well made, does exactly what it's supposed to do.......this 13" size holds two cups of rice easily with plenty of surface area to cool rice and mix in seasoned vinegar. Be sure to slightly dampen interior with wet towel before putting rice in. Cleans very easily with a damp paper towel after use. DO NOT SOAK, it will crack if it dries out too quickly. There is no finish or coating on the wood by design. Great product, reasonable price.

I bought one for almost the same price on Ali Express and to be honest, it was better than I thought but here is the thing though, paid almost the same price for this one which is the real deal from Japan. The tub is very well constructed, it doesn’t have the copper strips but rubber golden ones, which is very common in Japan for small hangiri. The one from Ali Express had the copper strips but completely lose and nailed into the wood, which of course eventually came off. Besides, the real deal doesn’t leak on the bottom even having glue on it, and we don’t even know if that’s safe to be in contact with food, which this one is still holding together. For the price, a little more expensive than the fake one, I’d definitely go for this one.

Je suis très satisfaite de ce bol. Il suffit de l'humidier un peu avec un linge humide avant de s'en servir et le tour est joué.

Qualité du bois douteuse. À peine 5-6 utilisations et déjà une fissure est apparue sur le fond. On doit supposer qu'elle va s'agrandir avec l'usage.
