A Reliable and Efficient Power Supply Unit

The EVGA SuperNOVA 220-G2-0650-Y1 is a high-quality power supply unit (PSU) that offers reliable performance and efficiency for both gaming and professional computing systems. This review will cover the key features of the PSU, including its build quality, power delivery, and overall value. One of the standout features of the SuperNOVA 220-G2-0650-Y1 is its exceptional build quality. EVGA is known for producing reliable and durable components, and this PSU is no exception. The unit is constructed with high-quality materials, ensuring long-term stability and resistance to wear and tear. The fully modular design allows for easy cable management, reducing clutter and improving airflow within the computer case. The power delivery of the SuperNOVA 220-G2-0650-Y1 is outstanding. With a 650-watt power rating, it provides ample power for mid-range to high-end gaming systems and professional workstations. The PSU boasts a high efficiency rating, typically above 90%, which ensures minimal energy waste and reduces heat generation. This not only leads to lower energy costs but also contributes to a cooler and quieter system operation. The SuperNOVA 220-G2-0650-Y1 incorporates a variety of built-in safety features. It offers overvoltage protection (OVP), undervoltage protection (UVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), over-temperature protection (OTP), and short circuit protection (SCP). These protections safeguard your components from potential damage caused by power surges, fluctuations, or electrical faults, providing peace of mind during operation. The PSU operates quietly, thanks to its optimized fan design. The 140mm double ball bearing fan provides efficient cooling while maintaining a low noise level. Under typical loads, the fan operates silently, ensuring a quiet computing experience. The fan also features a semi-passive mode, which allows it to stop spinning during low power usage, further reducing noise levels. In terms of value, the SuperNOVA 220-G2-0650-Y1 offers a compelling package. It provides a reliable and efficient power supply solution at a competitive price point. While there may be cheaper PSUs available on the market, the EVGA brand reputation, along with the unit's high-quality components and performance, make it a worthwhile investment for users seeking a reliable and durable power supply. One consideration to note is the physical size of the PSU. The SuperNOVA 220-G2-0650-Y1 is a standard ATX form factor, so it may not fit in smaller computer cases or compact builds. It's important to ensure that your computer case has sufficient space to accommodate the PSU's dimensions before making a purchase.

An excellent power supply

I replaced a lower end EVGA 600W unit with this SuperNOVA 650W G2. There was nothing wrong with my other EVGA 600W unit. Since Amazon had a good sale on it, I decided to purchase it because I like the full modular cabling on this. Makes for a much cleaner installation.Prior to buying these two EVGA units, I've purchased Corsair almost exclusively. The two things I dislike a lot on all the Corsairs are the super stiff cables, and the extemely tight 24-pin motherboard connector on the Corsairs. I always worry that I might break the motherboard plugging in that excessively tight connector. I was hoping that the EVGA SuperNOVA addresses this. It does. The connectors are much easier to connect, and the cables are very pliable, makes routing the cables very easy. All the cables are routed behind the mother tray. Almost no power cables are visible inside the computer. It looks great and provides great airflow. This was a breeze to do with this EVGA because of the highly pliable cables. On the Corsairs I had to really wrestle with the cables to get them out of the way.The EVGA is powering an i7-4790K at stock speed (I set the 4.4GHz Turbo on all four cores), 3 hard drives (one in a quick swap tray in the 5.25" bay) and an SSD, an optical drive, and a GTX980 (GTX960 pictured). The EVGA 600W unit that came out was an 80+ certified. With this EVGA SuperNOVA 80+ Gold installed, my system idles 10 watts less than the other EVGA unit. I can't say that it's noticeably quieter, but I like that I can set the fan to only come on when it's on a higher load. From now on, I will shop EVGA first when I need another power supply. Highly recommended!

A flawless experience

This PSU is pretty much almost perfect. I really liked the packaging the wires and the power supply come in. Its this sleek little bag and has an extra leather carrying pouch. I think the design and look of the cables and the PSU itself is great expect for the CPU cable. For some reason it has two 8 pin connectors attached to each other (for a second CPU). So that means when you plug in one CPU connector, another one is just gonna be dangling there. I dont understand this at all. For an option that <5% of people are gonna actually use and for a fully modular PSU, why is a second unused CPU connector basically mandatory? But besides that I dont have any complaints. The wires are nicely sleeved and durable. Easy to connect, use and set up. The ECO button on the back is also set to off on default and its pretty straight forward on/off button ( you would be surprised how that is not the case on other PSUs).As for performance I cant really speak much to tests, benchmarks and stuff like that but I never had a problem with my system due to the PSU. For the record im running a i5 6600k OCd 4.5ghz at 1.35 and GTX 1080 SC OCd to around 2015mhz. I might SLI later and will update this review with how that goes but i expect it to be amazing as it has been.

Good, solid performance at a fair price.

I bought this to replace an EVGA 500 Bronze that kept shutting down due to a failed cooling fan, leading to constant reboots. I already own a G2 850 W Gold in another desktop PC, so I am familiar with its quality and performance. No great surprises here with the 650 W, it does what it's supposed to do quietly and efficiently. I never advocate skimping on price when it comes to power supplies, they are very important for the health of your rig. My builds are, fairly average tier, 4 to 6 core AMD FX CPU's, Gigabyte motherboards, medium end EVGA or Gigabyte graphics cards, an SSD for the OS and a large plate drive for mass storage. As such these G2's are more than adequate for my needs and I highly recommend them for part-time enthusiasts and home users.
