I can't say that you *need* to, but I did. I also wash brand new clothes before I wear them. It's just me.

How tall is this with the lid on? Will a cupcake fit in it?

No, a cupcake will not fit in this with the lid on

When i use them in the freezer. Ice gets inside the container

You would need something to suck the air out prior to freezing and these are not made for that.
