The 1 for U Night Gown for Women - Night Dress for Women Sleepwear, Nancy 100% Cotton Gown

For some reason the urge struck me to wear long, flowing cotton nighties in the sultry summer heat. So glad I happened upon this company, as it’s hard to find much quality, variety and consistency in extended sizes. I currently own the Nancy, Laurel, Meghan and Naomi gowns, as well as the dressing gown. (The Rebecca gown was oddly mis-sized and had to be returned, such a shame, I wrote a review). All are wonderful quality, beautiful, flowing, soft, and have washed well (I wash everything on cold normal in a front-loader). I am a solid size 20-22 in stores, and disproportionately carry weight in my middle due to multiple pregnancies and abdominal diastasis. I purchased a 3x and while I am quite sure I could have purchased a smaller size (the arm holes are loose, the gowns billow around me), I suspect this is the best fit because I’ve been very uncomfortable in the past wearing nightgowns that fit beautifully for lounging but hugged and bunched around me too much during sleep. IMO, looser is better with these gowns (for heat as well, since the gown hits the body and picks up moisture, then floats out freely and allows for evaporation.) I will mention, for those who are comparing these gowns to Eileen West, that I purchased an Eileen West gown online at the same time I was ordering these. I have not yet even washed the EW gown because the shipping was quite slow, so I can’t speak to long-term quality or any of that. But the EW gowns do come 1 size larger than The 1 for U (EW’s 3x is larger than The 1 for U’s 3x- in EW I wear a 2x and it is still nice and billowy), the EW material feels a little finer, the Venetian lace and pintucks were a bit finer and continued around the back of the gown (unlike The 1 for U). However, EW is about 1.5-2x more expensive than The 1 for U, and many of their most beautiful gowns are not offered in plus sizes. So if you enjoy the EW aesthetic, but not the hefty price tag, The 1 for U is a great alternative.

Wearing this nightgown is like slipping between the pages of a beloved children’s book. All at once, you become Wendy waiting for Peter Pan at her windowsill. Or, Anne Shirley reciting the Lady of Shallot by the Lake of Shining Waters. It’s both classically nostalgic and comfortably familiar—away for the grown to become young again. In terms of construction, the nightgown is well made. It’s a quality garment that was clearly made to last. The seams are well finished and the stitches are neat. The cotton is thick but breathable—similar to Egyptian cotton sheets. Even though it’s a light color (blue and white floral), the fabric isn’t see-through. It’s well-worth the price and, considering the quality, it’s a bit of a steal! I have a pear-shaped figure and typically wear a size 16 (XL on the top, 2X on the bottom). I was worried it wouldn’t fit in the hips, so I ordered both a 2X and 3X. I ended up keeping the 2X. The nightgown runs large. The 3X practically off my shoulders. The 2X is still quite roomy, but I like the extra ease. The bodice would benefit from a small bust dart or slightly more shaping. I may do alterations later as the armholes are baggy on me. From the waist down, the fit is fairly true to size if not a tad oversized. I’m about 5’8, and the hem falls near my lower calf. The V-shaped yoke is actually quite flattering all things considered. The floral print is simple and delicate. It reminds me William Morris wallpaper and Liberty of London prints but on much smaller scale. I have two complaints: (1) The tag on the back neckline is large, stiff, and scratchy. It’s similar to ones used in generic sweatshirts and t-shirts. I’ll cut it out if it continues to bother my neck. And (2) the nightgown had a strong chemical smell when it arrived. It’s an odor that I typically associate with cheaper products. It went away after a few hours. It may be due to the packaging it came in. All in all, this is an excellent nightgown. (In fact, I bought two more and the housecoat/robe.) It’s good for warm summer nights, but will also transition nicely into spring and fall. 10/10 would recommend! (This would make an excellent gift for a book lover or “cottage core” enthusiast.)

I purchased this product as a nightgown and really liked the Lovely patterned fabric in lilac. It does not have pockets which would have been preferred. But it is styled beautifully and is very flattering. The only disappointment is the delicate trim of ribbon....it did not wash as well as the the other gown I purchased that did not have the ribbon trim. I would urge the manufacturer to discontinue the addition of the ribbon trim.

I have been needing pajamas for hot weather. I especially get hot and wake up often because of the heat at night and wanted something that might help. This nightgown has been perfect. It's 100% cotton which I always look for, and it's extremely comfortable at night. (It is a bit stiff, but after a few washings it softens up.) I also wanted a nightgown that I could wear around the house in the morning that was appropriate in front of kids. Having teenagers, there are often friends over in the summer when I wake up, and I don't want to have to rush to change. I'm not a morning person and need my coffee before getting ready. I was worried from the photo online that the lace side seams were open, but it's actually lace sewn on top of fabric, so it's nice and modest to wear out of the bedroom. I will be ordering more for sure!

I love this nightgown so much! I am usually a size 6 and ordered this in small. I will definitely be purchasing another but will go with an extra small next time as the small is really quite large. Still, I wear it to sleep in so it’s no big deal that it’s a bit more “flowy” than I would have expected. Also, it’s cotton so it did shrink a bit in the wash. Hands down my favorite nightie now!
