Nicely made
It's my 1st time purchasing a kanna this size. I feel it's a pretty solid plane one you tune it up. I would like them to grind the hollow a bit better then it was, but it's not a $5-600 one so. Would buy again though.

I liked the style of use and shavings I got.
Dang Japan, loving both cuts and pull techniques on woodworking tools. Wasn't sure with all the stickers on the plane out of the package. But the shavings and glossy surface show me this was worth the investment.

This is why you buy products from Japan
Truly an excellent product. Performed exactly as expected.

Pine and birch cut very easily, couldn’t get it work for hard maple though
I bought 42mm and 60mm. 60mm one came in a very bad shape. I needed to chisel out inside the body because it had a large concave, on top of which had some glue-like stuff. Probably I got a bad one. I worked on it for a while. Kakuri Youtube channel has pretty good instructions so I just followed the step. Fortunately, it worked very well after setup is done. I could not plane hard maple board though, I kept getting tearouts regardless of the grain directions. Overall, I think this one is definitely a bang for the buck, especially with the lowered price.

I’m loving my Japanese hand tools
I’m loving this plane. As a comparison I have a number of Veritas planes that also serve me well, and this one is no different. Today I tried using it as a smoother, basically to remove old finish and make the surface smooth as glass. It worked and without any plane tracks. The iron was easily sharpened and adjusting the depth of cut was just as simple.

Better than I expected
Before you buy a Japanese plane you'd better understand what you get into. Japanese planes need substantial knowledge and effort to set up, they won't perform well without proper tuning. I did spent several hours to make the plane work properly. What I like: very good workmanship, the blade is very well made, the body is made with great precision (but, still need a lot of tuning). What I don't like: the blade needs a lot of honing before it can be used. The seat of the blade needs to be trimmed to seat the blade properly. The cap iron needs to be sharpened and adjusted to seat properly. Overall, it is a great value for less than 60 dollars. After the hard work is done, it performs far better than most expensive western planes.

Totally correct out of the vinyl!
I bought the 60mm KANNA here on Amazon. On the manufacturer’s webite they have a LEARN section. In that section they have a video of how to tune the bottom of your KANNA. Following the instructions, this one needed no adjustments. It is “totally correct out of the vinyl”. This is a beautiful tool, very nice. I included a photo of other tools so you could see the size in a ralative way. Be sure, to learn from the manufacturer’s website, as there are a number of helpful videos.

A very nice plane
Based upon the one plane I've purchased, this is an excellent value. I have other Japanese planes purchased from other tool stores. None were as well made as this Kakuri brand. Like all Japanese planes, some minor sharpening and fitting were required before use, but now it make glassy smooth finish cuts with little effort. Yes, it is a much better tool than the ones I've purchased from the two major woodworking tool stores in the U.S.A.

I am very impressed with the quality of the plane, was usable out of the packet but after sharpening its taking lovely whisper thin shavings.
