Versatile, Practical, and Sturdy Bag - Still going strong!
Edited to add: We still have this same set up 11 1/2 years later, use it often (at least a 1000 miles/year), and it is still going strong. The cars have changed twice (to a 2001 Suburban, and now a 2008 Sequoia) and the cargo has changed (no more babies 😢), but this bag has been fabulous. We like that it is not rigid, so we can adapt the height to the contents. The Suburban had barn doors, which was annoying with the bag on the back because it blocked the door. But we still used it just as much. We travel in all kinds of weather, including a lot of blizzard conditions for Christmas trips to see the family, and have never had trouble with the water proofing. So not sure if those with that trouble have faulty bags, if the bags are not made the same aanymor, or if it is user error. I suspect we'll still have this set-up for at least another 11 years!Original review: We needed more cargo space for a 3000 mile road trip with 2 adults and 4 small children. We didn't want to have to hassle with cargo on the roof of our large SUV (a 98 Ford Expedition) so we paired this bag up with a Valley 90590 Deluxe Hitch Mount Cargo Basket. The bag is 48" wide but still has greater capacity than the comparable 60" bag on Amazon (Lund 601006 Cargo Carrier Heavy Duty Storage Bag) due to a taller height and deeper depth. The adjustable height feature is also a nice bonus. Since the Valley 90590 is 60" wide we were able to add a plastic tote strapped in with bungees on the end - which worked fabulously to put items to be easily accessed. (see picture) It rained 12 out of the 14 days of our trip and the items inside stayed perfectly dry. The construction is very well made - the bag is very thick and sturdy and the straps more than adaquate. As another reviewer mentioned, the bag is a little stiff in colder weather, making it difficult to zip. I can also see the advantage of adding a homemade pvc pipe frame as other reviewers have done. The way the straps attach to the top of the bag are well reinforced, but it remains to be seen how well they will hold up under years of use. The bag did not show any signs of wear from this initial trip. We did not even use up the capacity of this bag and still fit in 2 suitcases, 1 duffel bag, a portable baby bed (similar to a pack-and-play), 2 large swim totes filled with swim gear, a folding booster seat with tray, our laundry in a large laundry bag, packs of diapers, and more! I see no reason why this bag could not also be used on a roof top carrier, but I have not yet tried it for this use. We will probably end up using it in our flatbed trailer and on camping trips as well. Fabulous product!

Excellent waterproof, sturdy, spacious, companion to cargo carrier!
Just used this for a 2000 mile week-long family vacation. Although the Amazon photo does not accurately represent the item I received and it arrived in a much smaller box than I expected, the product worked out perfectly. In reading the reviews it seems Rola may have revised the product material, but in my estimation it was for the better. We encountered heavy rain on the day of our departure and had my fingers crossed for the claimed waterproofness. Upon arrival at end of a long travel day, we found the luggage completely dry. The bag material is less of a fabric and more like a reinforced, thick, but highly flexible vinyl. It fit my 21"x48" hitch-mounted aluminum cargo carrier from Harbor Freight Tools perfectly, and the six provided cinching/attaching straps allowed it to be tied off to the carrier frame securely. No additional ties were needed. The volume of gear this bag will hold is deceptive. I had my doubts, but it easily swallowed a full-sized hard-shelled suitcase, a medium suitcase, three stuffed duffle bags, another large bag, as well as several other smaller items - all without unzipping the 4" expansion feature. The HFT cargo carrier/Rola bag allowed easy access to the rear liftgate and the height did not obstruct the rear license plate on our 2013 Ford Explorer, which were concerns to me. The only thing I might change would be to add Fastex-type buckles to the straps for faster access to items stored in the bag while traveling, but that comes at the expense of marginally reduced security. I'm confident this bag will continue to serve well for years to come.

Watertight after 900 miles of a tropical storm.
Just made my first trip with this from lower Alabama to Virginia and back. The trip up there was uneventful, but the trip back was through the heavy rain of a tropical storm. Even through all the weather, no water seeped in. Every stop for gas I checked to make sure the straps were still holding, they never slipped at all.As far as size it cover the tray from front to back but leaves some space on one side of the tray. This is good so that if you're exhaust is on one side of the vehicle, you can slide the bag to the other side to keep it from getting the fumes, I'm not sure they would seep in anyways. I was able to fit two good size rolling suitcases, two large duffel bags, and a couple smaller bags into it while fully expanded. If you don't have that much you can easily collapse the bag to its smaller size using the zipper. The material is very heavy duty. It feels like it will last forever. The zippers seem equally tough. The straps are perfect for securing the back to the hitch haul. If you look at your hitch haul you'll see there are holes on the side of the tray for running the straps through. I just tied the excess straps in a bow over the bag to secure them from flapping or dragging. The only thing I can think of to change would be to add handles to it. The instructions say to load the bag on the tray, fill the bag, then strap it down. Instead, I filled the bag with the luggage, then carried it to the tray and strapped it down. That saves several trips which can be helpful, especially in rain. Completely full this thing weighs a ton so it takes two people. Handles would have been amazing.All-in-all this bag is a must have for hitch haul owners.
