Buffy the Vampire Slayer Vol. 2 (2)

What happened to the art?!
I have been a diehard Buffy fan since it aired on television, and my friends and I would meet up every Tuesday night, pile on the couch, and watch the new episodes, every season. I was skeptical when I heard Boom! was completely rebooting the entire thing for a modern era, with familiar characters in wholly new situations and roles. But you know what? I LOVED it. Vol 1 was well written, it was charming, it modernized the characters very well. And the ART...the art was amazing. Spot-on likenesses for all of the characters, they looked *exactly* like their real-life counterparts. Vol 1 ended on a massive cliffhanger, and I was so excited for Vol 2!And then...then I read it. I've included a before-and-after of pictures of the art in the book. Now, I normally like David Lopez' art in other things, so I was SHOCKED when this awful, awful art was looking back at me. Maybe it wasn't him, maybe it was the inker, I don't know. Not a single one of the characters is recognizable. They all look psychotic and deranged, and a little strung out with weird HEAVY bag lines under their bizarrely shaped eyes. Giles looks like Rick Moranis. Look at that picture of Willow...does that say "I'm so relieved my friend is okay", or does it say "I'm going to peel off your skin and eat your eyes"? She looks positively insane, and Buffy just....WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?Story-wise, man this was a big disappointment after the awesome Vol 1. That massive cliffhanger? Yeah apparently curing people of being a vampire and returning them to human is super easy, barely an inconvenience. Resolved in a couple of pages, no biggie. Then some fairly bog standard Sunnydale shenanigans happen, priceless artifact conveniently in a museum in town, yadda yadda yadda.I was super let down by this whole volume. I loved Vol 1 and the new direction they're taking the series in enough that I'll pick up Vol 3, hoping they take off and go back to the old art. But if we keep up with these goofy looking faces, I'm out.

OK Story, Garbage Art
Just so so disappointed in the art. Vol. 3 is even worse so don’t get your hopes up that it gets better. I couldn’t even get into the story because the character design for Willow is so bad. Major bait and switch between volume 1 and 2 and 3

Great second book in the series.
Arrived in good condition which is rare for a book being delivered. The context is exactly the same as the comic books. Worth the buy for either an addition to your collection or a substitute for keeping up with the comics. Only complaint is they put like 5 comics in each book which is nice and keeps price low but additional content would be nice.

So compelling and entertaining in the spirit of Buffy
What fun! And not a rehashing or comic copy of the TV series but a retelling based on an entirely alternate reality—an alternate timeline. So, it's entirely new but with the same Scooby Gang and friends and family but just enough different to make it new.

Reimagined
This is a nice modern re-imagining on how Buffy came about and how she started to meet her 'group'. Artwork is nice just felt a little short.

Buffy Slays
Great graphic novel. Really enjoyed the storyline. I look forward to reading the next volume.

Good story, bad drawings
The story is amazing but the illustration has dropped drastically from Vol 1. It’s kind of distracting.

Massive letdown after a great first volume
Volume one was so promising! Slick artwork with characters that looked like the actors, interesting storytelling and a pretty successful attempt to bring the scoobies into 2019.What happened in volume 2??? Did they get sued??? The artist changed, the artwork is frankly garbage and the plot is really poor. I'm super disappointed...Pic of Giles in vol 1 and vol 2 attached as evidenced. It's actually pretty funny the more I look at it.

Obscene drop in quality from Volume 1
I bought (and loved) Volume 1 of this reboot, so I couldn't wait to get stuck in to volume 2. Unfortunately they changed artists between them, and I'm not sure the new artist has ever seen a human face. Absolutely shocking mess. The image on the left is Willow in Volume 1, and on the right is Volume 2. And no, this wasn't some monster-of-the-week episode where Willow changes into a chimp.Unfortunately the same artist seems to be on board for the rest of the series so I'm out.

Give it a chance.
I love this series. I think it's taking new chances yet still staying in the familiar and much loved world that Whedon has created. Give it a chance.

Great story but disappointing art
The story is still really interesting and fun but the art is horrendous compared to the first volume, it looks so rushed and just not cared about at all.

Awesome!
I know everyone has their own opinions and often those are strong opinions when it comes to Buffy fandom but personally I really enjoyed this!
