Q: Is it stable on the carpet?

My 5 tier has been on carpet -not totally flat, but also not fluffy- for a few years with no issues.

Q: What is the maximum weight each self can hold?

Booklet that comes with the item says each shelf can hold a maximum of ten pounds.

Q: Is it possible to leavee a bottomone shelve out so I can put a taller item on the bottom?

I think doing that would jeopardize the stability of the unit, especially since it only has 3 legs, it really needs the shelves - especially the bottom one which adds a 4th "foot" in the center to help keep it from tipping forward. It might work if you have it very well anchored into the wall though, but I wouldn't really recommend it.

Q: Is the espresso/black really black or is the piece simply very dark brown?

I have a black/black which is black poles and black shelves. Then I have an expresso/black which dark brown shelves and black poles.
