Griffin vs. Gumdrop and Otterbox
I have tried the Otterbox defender, Gumdrop Hidaway, and now this case and Griffin's case wins hands down! All three protected from falls and drops. First I will go over my least favorite, the gumdrop and why it fails. The stand is awesome in that it is very sturdy and is attached, BUT every time you open it, it exposed the backside of your iPad to dirt and debri. This dirt ended up scratching my iPad and migrating everywhere. The front hard plastic shell is TOO tight and put divots on the screen protector I had installed beforehand. I can only imagine what it would have done to the actual screen if that protector had not been there. It was also darn near impossible to use your finger to slide your screen from the bottom to access wifi, volume, etc settings on the iPad (this really stunk!) The Otterbox Defender case was nice to start out with and seemed well made, but the separate screen cover was just a pain and broke easily. The rubber cap for the Lightning port also broke rather quickly. Now to the Griffin. Every opening except the front camera port is covered with flaps that seem very sturdy, but are easy to move when you need them to. The rubber of the case is very thick and the covers are made in such a way that it doesn't seem to fatigue the rubber when you open ports like it did on the Otterbox. I can knock the stand a for its legs being a little flimsy, but over the last few months I haven't had any problems and it has been fiddled with by three young kids. I have actually come to appreciate the fact that it is so small. I would also like to mention that this case has fantastic grip. The Otterbox case is is smooth and I was always afraid it would slip off stuff. The Griffin wins by far! Now with all three I have had the issue with the screen cover sticking to the screen of the iPad and getting those annoying bubbles. I have just come to accept it as a part of any heavy duty case. I like this case so much that I went and got one for my phone.

The product is really nice, but it wasn’t the real Griffin Survivor case
The product is really nice, but it wasn’t the real Griffin Survivor case. I thought it was the real one at first but when I got it, the packaging was slightly different from the first Griffin Survivor case that I bought at an electronic store. Another difference is the screen size: on the real one the screen fits exactly over the ipad screen, while the one from amazon is slightly bigger than the ipad screen so you can see a little bit of the white edge of the iPad, which is no big deal really - unless those things bother you. Also the sign on the back says SURVIVOR, but my old one had the Griffin logo on it and the logo on the home button is slightly bolder on the amazon one. (I’ve attached photos - the lighter pink with the sticker on it is the original Griffin Survivor case, while the darker pink on the right side is the one from amazon) The original case lasted me over 6 years, and I’m just now replacing it since the stand has cracked and the rubber has loosened, but the case itself is still good and my iPad is still in a great (still looks quite new) condition. However, other than the packaging, the screen, and the signs (and the slightly darker color), the case is almost identical to the original one. It fits just the same (I even tried fitting the old pieces with the new ones and they fit just fine) and it feels just as sturdy; also it is way cheaper than the original one, which in my opinion is a really great deal. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because I thought it was the real one; but the product is a really good buy and hopefully will last just as long.

Griffin Survivor I-Pad case: EXCELLENT 4.5 STARS
This is the second case I've purchased. The first case lasted about two years before the children ripped the covers off of the speaker and camera. It has withstood several falls onto carpet, concrete and tile floors. The only improvement I could suggest is for the cover(s) to "swivel" more easily so they stay open. (They tend to not swivel at all, therefore they flop back to their original position.) Given all this case has been through over the past two years, I gave it a five star rating. There is no option for "Half Star" ratings and I don't feel this product should be decreased to 4 Stars for the issue with the covers. The performance of the covers, keeping out rain, dust, etc. is perfect.

Sturdy Product with Manufacturer Support!
I received my first Griffin iPad case five years ago. There were a couple of design flaws and the stand broke relatively quickly. I contacted Griffin Technology and they requested proof of purchase and photos of the defect and happily replaced my case. It lived on (through my own clumsiness, and four kids) for 4+ years when it was just getting to be beat up (the iPad is still pristine!) so we ordered a new case. It is even better than the last (they slightly redesigned it) and is a much more affordable option than the Otterbox defender cases. It has a hard plastic inner shell with a silicone outer and a built in screen protector. I recommend this regularly to anyone who has an iPad and kids!

I don't like the way the front "frame" clips on
Seems OK, not quite as solid and well built as my Otterboxes, but hoping it lasts longer. I don't like the way the front "frame" clips on, it dislodges quite easily, just as lifting the charging port flat, which is poorly designed all round - lifting it to insert the charging plug depresses the home button... so someone wasn't thinking a whole lot when they did this. All in all not blown away, price was OK compared to the Otterbox, and frankly after two Otterboxes in 5 years and both of them the silicon just disintegrated I was not going to spring for a new one. Hoping it lasts longer and I can live with the quirks.

Kid IPad saver!!!
When I upgraded to a new IPad, I gave my 4 year old daughter my old IPad to play games. This griffin case has saved the iPad numerous times! Took a fall from the top of my Tahoe while backing out of the driveway and has been stuck underneath the sink faucet(....because bubble gum! ) and the IPad was unharmed! The older iPad model is heavy and this case makes it feel like it weights a ton.

Not perfect, but does the job.
It's a little silly that the instructions for how to open the incredibly-hard-to-open case are stored INSIDE the incredibly-hard-to-open case. Griffin should maybe rethink that strategy. This case literally requires a flat head screw driver to take on and off Not because there are any screws, but because it's impossible to do with my fingers. The screen protector does weird things up against the screen of my ipad. It looks like there's water trapped over a good part of the screen, but it's dry as a bone. It's annoying to look at. Also, I have to press a lot harder near the edges of the screen than I had to before I put the case on. It's less sensitive. But hey, at least it'll survive if one of my kids drop it!
