Big Ball of Whacks - 6-Color Editionby Roger von OechWith new design features, including two entirely new pyramid elements, the Big Ball of Whacks is bigger than the original. 192 rare earth magnets give it the look and feel of a hefty ball. An additional 6 pieces, up from the original 30, are split up into 24 Whack pieces, 6 Half-Whack, and 6 Flat Whacks. While not seemingly so, this complex structure presents a great challenge when it comes to trying to recreate the ball-like shape.Six extra pieces may not seem like a lot, but it makes the Big Ball of Whacks have more than double the volume of the original. This allows for innumerable creative opportunities to design your own shapes and designs. The 6-color edition features pieces in six different bright colors!A 96-page illustrated guide-book is included, which goes into detail about the design of the Ball of Whacks, what the "Golden Ratio" is, and has a number of exercises designed to getting you used to working with the Big Ball of Whacks and get those creative juices flowing. Review: Expensive but good puzzle/building block kind of toy - I bought 2 of these on the east coast, while on a business trip, many years ago for my sons' as a gift. Thought my sons were too little for them and ended up putting them in a drawer. Seven years later, I found them this past weekend and handed them out to now 10 and 9 year old boys. My 6 year old daughter wanted one so I came to trusty desertcart and found this one. Well packaged. I appreciate the little book for making all sorts of designs and I ended up purchasing a 4th so I could have one. Expensive but good puzzle/building block kind of toy. Review: Not just for kids - Ha! Read the great reviews and got it for my 12 y/o daughter... she wasn’t so amused, but I own a marketing agency and it is loved by everyone in the office, a fun toy for the conference room!

Not just for kids
Ha! Read the great reviews and got it for my 12 y/o daughter... she wasn’t so amused, but I own a marketing agency and it is loved by everyone in the office, a fun toy for the conference room!

Excellent to fidget with.
They're fun to play with, but they don't fit with the regular size ball, which was my hope. These things are pretty overpriced, but I notice that they are hard for anyone to put down. Wish they came three to a pack, without the annoying booklet.

Fun creative toy - gender neutral
Our 11yr old son saw the red version Ball of Whacks at the NYC Public Library gift shop and put it on his wish list for his birthday. When he opened gifts at his party, this one he immediately shared with friends. If you like tangrams, then you’d probably like this challenging 3D magnetic version.

Can you make one with enough smaller pieces to create a ball of slices?
We love that you can arrange the shapes so that a "slice" of pieces can be pulled out of a ball, like cutting up an orange. It would be GREAT if there were enough of the smaller pieces so you could make a ball of slices. We calculated that it would take about 5 balls to have enough of the smaller pieces to make a ball of "slices". The cost is too high for that. I would definitely buy another ball at a slightly higher price if it contained enough of the smaller pieces to make a ball of "slices". It would also allow the user to make an exponentially higher amount of shapes if it contained more of the smaller 1/2 pieces. My 4 1/2 year old grandson's imagination is really putting smiles on our faces as we watch him make all kinds of different designs and shapes out of your product. These are now his favorite "toys". tyvvm

Company customer service is "whack!!" (That means good)
It's just a desktop time waster, yet it's oddly addictive and seems to force you to think a little differently. It's perfect for when you have writer's block or just need a quick break to focus on something else. The 5-star review however is primarily for the service I received from the company itself. After buying one of these my daughter lost a piece. She contacted them and they promptly sent her a new piece for free. In conclusion, I recommend Ball of Whacks over ball of wax any day.

He has so much fun trying to make different shapes
I purchased this item for my 5 year old. He saw it in his Dr office and became obsessed with it. He has so much fun trying to make different shapes. The only issue we have is that we ordered the colored ball and we received solid red. Would have returned it but our son was so excited, he tore open the package.
