GEFU 19060 Rotary Grater, Pecorino

It is a very high quality product! Very resilient. Easy to assemble. Easy to clean. Dishwashable! I purchased two times the big drum cheese grater from Zyliss and both of them cracked the spring crank hinge due to too hard cheeses. And I purchased the Microplane rotary grater and it has a too soft structure - it bends with a hard cheese. And I also have the electric cheese grater from Ariete and it has too many tiny places to cheese remains get hidden and it is not dishwashable. Now I've found my perfect rotary cheese grater: Gefu Pecorino!Two contraries minor points: if the cheese is too hard you may have to put some extra force with your thumb and it can be tiring; and you have to pay attention to mount the crank on the drum accordingly.

It's sorta fine for the men in the family, not so much for the women. It's bulky and therefore it's difficult to apply pressure while rotating. It also doesn't fit easily in our drawers - it takes half the space, and it has to stay out on the counter which is not ideal. We use it several times a week, and it does the job.

So it’s a bit flimsy. Made out of plastic. Does not work well with hard aged cheeses. If you don’t have large strong hands you won’t like it either. Pain to clean. Wouldn’t put it in the dishwasher because it’s plastic. If you have soft cheese and big strong hands it will work.

I am upgrading this to 5 star. I have used it daily since February of 2014 without a problem. It is far superior to any rotary grater I have used. Grates cheese down to nothing. The handle and the detachable container can both be mounted on either side of the unit for right or left hand use. If you have a really tough piece of hard cheese to grate you can rest the container's flat bottom on your counter top to provide stability. The grater can be operated with or without the container. Plastic but durable with two very sharp large diameter stainless steel cutting wheels for fine and coarse grating. Does its job quickly and efficiently.

I have tried many cheese graters, and I end up using this one the most - but the design is somewhat flawed. Its impossible to hold the grater and put sufficient pressure on the cheese at the same time. Also I end up using the course wheel despite preferring the finer grate because it sometimes pops out of the handle. It is well made though.

I researched every cheese on the market, both automatic and rotary. Either they are hard to operate or they are cheap plastic that breaks easily. This one is plastic but that is not likely to be the problem. The problem is that you cannot exert enough pressure to hold down a hard piece of cheese so that the blades will shred it quickly. This one takes a half an hour to shred the cheese and the plastic cup that catches it keeps falling out. The interchangeable blades are not easy to change and the instructions are a joke, way too much small print and no real explanation of how to work the machine. This means it is likely made in some other country where they don't care about quality, ease of use, durability, precise instructions, or warranty. You cannot even contact the seller, and I do not like dealing with sellers that are not responsive. They must care if their customers are satisfied. This is the most expensive one made and it does not work on the very type of cheese it is made for, Parmesan and Romano. I want my money back and I want to hear from the manufacturer or seller. I an tired of buying these items that are advertised to work and yet do not even come close. I assume the only other review was written by the seller since no one would like how this thing works.

I really want to like this. The materials are great and it feels sturdy. But there are some serious issues that are highly annoying to me:1.) The crank detaches if you turn it into the opposite direction. It's ment to be easy to dissassemble, but for most of the time it just falls apart. With cheese inside it can become quiet messy and you'll need three hands to put it back together. That leads to the next issue:2.) The gap between the grater drum is too big, so the cheese gets stuck below a certain size. You have to take it apart to get the cheese out (Just turning the crank back doesn't work because of no. 1)3.) Both sides are open. If you are not careful the cheese will fall out from the other side. Something that could be easily avoided if the crank part would be closed, but for the sake of an elegant design is not.4.) The idea with the container to collect the cheese is brilliant. Would be even better if there would be more than one included or a way to purchase extras. Also being made of plastic, I don't see it to last very long.5.) It's big and the hard edges makes it difficult to give it a hard grip. (Remember we are talking about grating hard cheese here).6.) All moving parts are made of plastic. The quality of the plastic is not an issue, since it seems to be good quality, but it doesn't move smooth. (I guess that's the reason they left some extra space between the rim of the drum and the case, which makes the cheese get stuck.So my overall recommendation: Don't buy!
