Moon globe
This is a deceptively nice globe. As it sets on the shelf at a distance it appears a monotone silvery gray-green unremarkable globe. This is a free standing globe that sets on a clear plastic stand. Nice 12" size. Looks and feels like a quality globe. This globe is meant to be picked up and held. Very detailed craters and seas/plains are marked and named. I had no idea so many famous names were used for objects on the moon. The more you look the more you see. East and west terminators are marked so you know when you've reached the "DARK SIDE" Luke. This has become a favorite here at the house. This is not a flash in the pan gift and might be ignored at first but if picked up, it will spark the imagination. A gift that gets better over time.

NASA Moon Globe - very nice!
I bought this for my 8 year old grandson who loves anything to do with space, planets, the universe, etc. He wanted this moon really badly. I was a little concerned by some of the reviews but others were really good so I decided to go for it. The moon globe arrived safe and sound and it is beautiful. He loves it.This little guy is very particular and he spends a lot of time studying the planets. He pointed out many landmarks as soon as he got it out of the box, so it must be pretty accurate. Great product -whatever problems it had must have been resolved. Thank you for excellent service!

Really helpful tool for astronomy reference.
I purchased this for use at astronomy outreach events for my astronomy club. The globe has been very helpful at showing people the features they see on the the Moon using our telescopes. It serves that role very well. The globe seems solid and durable. The plastic stand makes it easy to demonstrate details around the globe. The globe includes very many craters, mountains, rilles and other details. There are labels for interesting locations such as the various manned and unmanned missions. It also shows the limits of the surface that is visible from Earth. Why only 4 stars? Sometimes there are so many names that some features are obscured. Also, the dark shading of the lunar maria is not indicated on the map -- the whole surface is the same shade of grey.Overall, this is a very good product for our use.

The one I just received is fine
I just bought one of these (August 2013) from TechUsed. The good news is that the globe I received (a new one, despite the seller's name) is free of the gross assembly defects inflicted on some unlucky customers. The northern and southern hemispheres are both present and where they should be.The bad news is minor. There are some small constructional flaws. In one or two places the paper gores covering the papier-mâché globe don't fit quite right, so a narrow (a millimeter or so) sliver of beige cardboard is visible. The printing which extends across gores doesn't always line up perfectly. The joint between the cardboard hemispheres, around the lunar equator, aligns pretty closely but not perfectly. The joint is covered by what looks like a narrow band of clear plastic with little tick marks at intervals of 5 degrees of lunar longitude. Whether that will stay in place or fall off with age I can't tell yet.The northern and southern hemisphere meridians of longitude don't line up exactly all around. They are perfectly aligned at extreme east and west, but drift a bit in between. This misalignment is small, a degree or so at most. All this is trivial stuff, nowhere near enough to dock a star.Overall, the oddest thing about this globe is that it doesn't really look like the moon. Visually, the moon's extensive maria are much darker than the rest of the landscape, but on this globe everything's a uniform light gray color. But I knew that before I bought it. There is a newer (and more expensive) globe on the market which shows the maria as darker regions. The vendor was fine; nice fast shipping, no damage to the box or the product.Overall, I'm happy to add this to my stash of terrestrial and sidereal globes.

Globe Poorly Constructed
I received my Replogle NASA Moon Globe on June 24 of 2010. By that evening I had noticed that the longitude lines on the northern hemisphere didn't line up with those on the southern hemisphere. Upon investigating this minor annoyance I discovered that the southern hemisphere was attached almost 180 degrees out of sync. The far side of the moon was under the near side. Because the globe had an indicator to show where areas visible from earth ended it should have been obvious to whoever put it together that the western limit of moon visibility in the northern hemisphere had no business being just above the eastern limit of moon visibility that was written on the southern hemisphere. This review is simply a warning to anyone buying the globe. Check it out!Although I gave my moon a single star, I anticipate that the company will replace it with a correctly constructed globe. That globe will indeed be worth a five star rating. The globe is beautiful and for someone who is interested in lunar observing it will serve as a handy reference. (But probably not completely replacing the laminated Sky and Telescope Field Map of the Moon)

Wonderful Globe
NOTE !!!!! I added my own mount, the globe comes with a nice clear plastic base that allows the globe to rotate in any direction. All the landings of Apollo are marked. The company that makes this globe is in the United States and the globe is made in the USA.

sketchy
Some of the "stickers" on my globe don't line up. Yes I said stickers. You can see the lines between them. You can see when a name of a crater or lake is printed across two stickers and it doesn't quite line up. Kinda looks like this! Also said it came with a book or pamphlet. Yea well mine didnt. Big disapointment. Certainly not worth the price. Merry Christmas.
