Q: Are these annual plants?

Depending upon the area where you live it's generally best to plant these in late winter early spring after a frost, you can plant them in the fall before the snow and the seed will germinate underneath the snow and appear in spring. Most people do not read the instructions that come with these, I did, they were SUPER helpful. Some place like Afghanistan they plant twice a year, once early Winter-Spring, 2nd time late summer early fall, and they grow their hemp in between. But I suppose they won't be free to grow flowers now q.. It's completely different than growing tomatoes, green peppers or hemp. They don't like too much water, they also don't do too well I'm heavy clay soil, they like slightly sandy soil. They make really cool dried flower arrangements and you can eat the seeds, or you could also just leave them be and they will reseed themselves naturally, in some areas they are consider noxious weeds because once they take to a spot they spread like wildfire, one of the only plant on earth that grow on every single continent besides Antarctica. Very cool flower, very well packaged, just be patient as far when you plant, don't plant if it's going to be very warm or hot outside, these like to be frozen and then germinated at a cool temp, no heating pad needed. I really hope that info helps. I don't know that much about this flower but that's everything that I do know about it, and I learned most from getting a pack of these a year or two ago, now I have plenty of my own seeds and some cross pollinated because I grow them so close and there are bees in the area and Bees and Bee Farmers love these flowers, as well as clovers etc.

Q: How is growing this legal?

It's been a legal gray zone. Poppies do grow wild in a lot of places in the US. The key issue is you just don't want to be caught slicing poppy pods and scraping the dried sap. Technically illegal according to the feds but impossible to eradicate, well loved in flower gardens, and a number of cultures have poppy seeds deeply woven into their cuisine. Poppy seed oil is used in a very wide range of manufactured food products. Local cops have better things to do than enforce an unenforceable law.

Q: Are all of these poppy seeds the Papaver Somniferum strain?

Yes ALL ARE "Papaver Somniferum" varieties, usually we have many different types (over 13) of AAA++ grade seeds, but sometimes we run out of inventory and only have a few or a couple different types left in this listing. We only restock inventory if they pass a 95-99% germination rate test. If they have a lower germination rate we pull them and do not sell them in this listing. Thanks you!
