The guys love it
Bought this game for my other half for Valentines day. It arrived on Valentines day, well before the expected arrival. I felt this was very thoughtful of this vendor. When he opened it, his eyes lit up like a child on Christmas and he couldn't wait to put the gun together, wow, a full sized gun. By the time he finished putting the gun together, some of his friends happened by, he had it all put together and the game up on the screen. I havn't seen so much excitement from these guys in a long time. They played well into the night and it seems since then that Friday nights are now Big Game hunter night. These guys aren't kids but range from 32 to 48 years old, but on Friday nights, you could swear they are. The game came brand new in the box and still works perfectly. I won't lie, I find myself telling them to watch out for the bear. I find this an exciting game for all ages, my 7 year old grandson came over and played it one day, now he wants one too (So does his Dad).

Cabela's Big Game Hunter Hunting Party
I'm an adult and this game was way, way, waaaay too difficult to calibrate gun.Too sensitive and calibration constantly failed, never was able to calibrate the gun and therefore not able to play the game.Followed all instructions with darkening the room fully, still unable to calibrate gun.Called tech support and they were able to help in getting the gun calibrated. There is a little dime size light under the big silver dollar sized blue light at end of gun that you have to cover up with your finger while on the Duck following section of the Tutorial. This little bit of information should be in a troubleshooting guide, (No troubleshooting guide included with game.) Sure would have saved a lot of frustration in setting the game up to play.Good game to play once the gun was calibrated.

Well, if I could calibrate it, maybe I could rate it
Ok, perhaps my title is misleading. The issue is you have to "calibrate" the game in order to play it. EACH and EVERY time. We have been able to calibrate it a total of THREE times out of countless attempts. And I mean countless-- to the point that my drunk friends would come over and make it their life mission to "beat" the calibration, all to no avail. I've tried completely sober a multitude of times and I personally was successful twice, my husband once. Kinect is a fabulous system but this game, however, is not.Disregarding the monumental calibration flaws, the game is sophomoric and repetitive. It has the graphics of a Super Nintendo game, and I'm not trying to diss on SNES. I remember playing Oregon Trails circa 2002 with better graphics (I kid-- but not really). All the animals follow the same pattern, so if you lost the first time, not to fear! The bear will still jump out at you at the exact same time with the exact same attack algorithm! The only novelty is the gun, but again, that is flawed. I tried desperately to use the sight, but finally gave up, and just used a shotgun approach, which yielded many more kills. It has way too much lag to be accurate. Honestly, I think if you just used your hands to imitate a gun with the Kinect, you might get a better response (instead of the three lights on the gun to triangulate your aim). All in all, this game is impossible to calibrate (coming from a strong gamer), and once you actually get past the calibration limbo, the gaming is pathetic at best, with graphics circa early 2000s.

Im not a hunter….
But if I were maybe this game would be more enjoyable. The sensor only worked half the time. Don’t get this.

Tiring on your hand/fingers.
Ok, so I am 44 but I don't have arthritis. This game will wear your fingers/hand out quickly. The upside, if you are getting it for a child is maybe they won't get so addicted to the game they need to play for hours at a time, they probably won't be able to!My BF is 48 & he said the same thing. We played it one time when I first bought it a month ago and have not played it since. So, the fun factor is not that high on it either. At $40 it is a good price for a game that does come with a gun which can be used with Cabela's other hunting games.

Easy solutions to all the problems
Okay, first of all let's talk about shipping: arrived a day before it was supposed to. So, that is obviously a plus. Now, to the actual product: this was meant to be a christmas gift for my mom- someone who used to go hunting but hasn't gone since her brother passed away. I read a couple dozen reviews, good and bad, before I made the decision to purchase. She's had many wii games with wii guns, and well.. just like the wii in general, they were always disappointing. When we got the kinect I was very impressed in comparison to a wii remote, so I wanted to search for a gun. I was bummed when I found one that had so many bad reviews, but decided to give it a shot anyway due to multiple solutions to all the problems in the reviews. Yes, calibration is a pain in the ass. However, covering the little blue light works wonders. I used aluminum foil to cover it personally. The aim was pretty accurate as well, not off 10in. like a review I seen had said. In short, I couldn't wait til christmas, and gave it to her an hour ago and she is in love with it. She tried the calibration without the blue light being covered, and got as frustrated as I did day one, and she passed with flying colors the first try as soon as it was covered. She did have to re-do it once more, but she was just dillydallying and it timed-out (it wanted her to shoot "continue" or something, and she just wanted to keep shooting around the screen.)

Good alternative to typical violent games
My 10 year old son REALLY wants me to buy him all of the violent, hard-core, shooting games. He has that young boy fascination with guns. This is a great game for him....he likes the gun and the shooting aspect of the game...but he's not pretending to shoot other people or being overwhelmed with blood and gore. Gun takes a bit to set up the first time you use it as it needs to calibrate and line itself up, but it's easier after that. Adults ended up getting into the game as much as the kids did.
