Study and very handy. So glad I bought them.
I am 5'8" and don't enjoy bending over to push my husband's wheelchair. I contacted the Invacare company which made my husband's wheelchair to see if they made extensions for his chair (they don't). I saw these and decided to take a chance. I was warned by Invacare not to trust anything that just clamped on because it could slip. I went to the actual Wright Stuff website and looked at the directions online so I could get an idea of how these worked. They arrived sooner than I expected, which was very nice. The directions were not hard to follow. The actual welding looks a bit messy (the handle to the clamp), but it's very sturdy. I installed the handles and was very pleased with the strength of them. You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver and some pliers to hold the bottom nut as you tighten the screws.I've only had the extensions a week, but my back feels the difference. I will probably have to tighten the screws periodically, but the extensions seem very good. The actual hard plastic handles (very solid plastic) are better than what came with the wheelchair. The rest of the extension is made with extremely strong steel. I like that the handles are easily cleaned, unlike the porous spongy-type material on the wheelchair's own handles (I'm a bit of a germaphobe, and the spongy-type handle material doesn't really get clean).People have stopped me and asked how I got such tall handles. Too bad I don't have any business cards for the company!Hope all of this makes sense. :)

Totally worth it
These extensions really save my back and make it much easier to push my wife around. (When she's in the wheelchair, of course). I have actually pushed her around for hours with minimum discomfort due to not having to bend down as much. (I am 6'4" but these would benefit anyone over 6' I think).Easy to install, just follow the directions, LOL.

Perfect. Easy to install. No more bending over to push my husband.

Wonderful improvements for the wheelchair- but may need extra adjustments.
These handles are real back-savers and make pushing a wheelchair so much easier. I'm 6'2" and have always had to bend over to push my wife's wheelchair, and when there's a lot of pushing in the day, my back has gotten pretty painful. These handles raise the pushing height by about 5 inches (from 37" to 42"), and that's about perfect for me. The only problem was installation. Her wheelchair has hand-brakes and it wasn't possible to install these extension handles as designed. The bottom flange which goes under the handle has a long L-shaped tongue which is supposed to go around the bend of the wheelchair handle and fasten on the vertical column. The handbrake prevents that, so i had to have a machine shop cut off the tongue of the bottom flange so it could be attached to the top flange, and then securely tightened the two flanges together, and it worked well.

Game Changer
I am so glad I stop procrastinating and ordered this product. I was hoping in my mind there was something out there that would help. My son suffered a stroke and I his caretaker at 60 yrs old. Although I am in pretty good shape, I stand 5'9 inches tall and the leaning forward as I push was starting to show up in my lower back.Putting the handles on was not too difficult. Fitting them over the existing rubber handles took a bit more elbow grease but nothing to complain about. Now when I am pushing this 180 lb young man in the 16lb chair, it's a breeze. No more alerts to my back to beware. I actually now can feel myself getting stronger as I am walking with better posture while pushing the chair.Thank you so muchg Mechelle

Mixed feelings...
I have a transport chair from Walgreen's. Several folks here said that these would fit. We are going to make them work! But it will require a couple hose clamps. Their purpose of raising the handles is going to be so much better for my husband's back. If you are handy and creative, these handles may work well on my chair.

Great idea, didn’t work.
So disappointed! Bought these to take on a vacation in which we were going to walk a lot. Got them to try to save my back pushing the wheelchair all day. A few of us tried installing them and none of could get them to stay in place. They were expensive and a waste.

A safety device to ease a care-driver’s back and increase the control of patient
The add-on handles simply attach via nuts and bolts to a plate that comes with the kit. A pressure connection is formed around the original rubber handles. It may wiggle, but they are not going anywhere. Best to install in good light and a clearly visible floor. Maybe you are a brilliant agile nut holder, I’m not.The most important reason to add these is increased control of your patient’s wheelchair. My wife screams less. That’s good for my health.
