This is a great book to read with staff who are familiar with cultural practices that are relevant. Our staff read Dr. Hollie's book, Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching and Learning first to build some strategies and experiences on this topic. The Will, Skill book provides more information on strategies but also takes a deep and candid look at how our staff can create and sustain a a strong and positive community culture that expects all students to learn at a high level. For example, in the first chapter the authors lay out what staff can do to create effective school systems for learning - staff philosophical alignment, staff consensus and the acceptance that there will be bumps along the way. I recommend this book for any school leader or school staff looking to build leadership capacity in themselves to create a healthy school culture.

Very practical advice on how to break the chain of failure within a toxic school culture. The second half has lots of good practices that teachers can use right away to work in an urban school setting. Overall, this is one of the best books I've read on turning a school around. Love it!!!

A good read for my leadership program. A go to book for everyone considering or in a leadership position

I have to admit I loved this book before I opened it, after hearing Dr. Mohammed speak. This book meets us right where we are, with the students we are working with. The information he and Dr. Hollie present is fresh, practical and is at work forming me into a more reflective, student-centered educator. It really looks deeply into your beliefs.

Anthony Muhammad provides a clear path for the types of changes necessary in education if we are to move all students forward and help all students to become productive and successful members of society. His book is not about test scores but how to provide students with the relevant tools and skills needed to be life long learners and problem solvers.
