Doesn't melt when plugged into Echo Show 5
I first got another brand because of its positive reviews, but after ten minutes or so plugged in I smelled plastic burning and realized it was so hot it was melting. So I bought this brand and anxiously watched it after plugging it into my Echo Show 5. Works wonderfully! I use a power bank and this DigitCont 2nd Gen. USB 5V to 12V to keep my Show 5 "alive" during the night when I don't have electricity. I have found batteries for all my different kinds of Echos (Echos, Echo Dots, Echo Spot), but this was the only answer for the Show 5. I don't always have electricity at night (I'm off-grid), so batteries and power banks are part of my way of life when it comes to today's personal technology.

great deal
Works with a battery pack, or ac adapter i am using a solar powered battery pack for this when needed. It will work right out of the bag will update if there any issues just using it to power my echo show while showering since I leave the a.c unit in my room since I don't want to damage the original cord it came with.

Solved a Major Problem
Needed a way to make the Echo Show connect via USB and was glad to find this device. The cord is pretty short, but fortunately using a USB extender solved the length issue.

Wors well as advertised
This 5v usb to 4.0x1.7mm 12v step-up converter woks well with the Amazon Echo Show 5 and the Echo Spot and either a battery bank or a 5v usb power supply. As another Amazon review states, it does not burn up in short order. I have been using it for almost a year now with no issues.

Doesn’t work
Got this for my dot in my bathroom and it is doesn’t provide enough power to play more than a few seconds of music which stops the music on all the other dots in the house.

Perfect for powering a 3rd gen dot with a 2.4A USB power supply
Even at max volume (which we never normally use), this converter works perfectly. Not sure it would power much more than a 3rd gen Dot, but for that it's a perfect way to cut down on clutter, especially if you've got surge protectors with 2.4A USB ports like I do.

Shuts Off
I ordered this so I could use my Echo Dot outside. The Amazon site recommended this for the Dot. I tried it 4 times and each time after 20 mins the Dot would just turn off and I couldn't get music back on my unit. It required a power bank of at least 2 to 3A and I have one with 5A. So I returned it and will just plug my Echo in to electricity. When I looked at some other comments, I was not the only person who had this problem.

Update: Very unfortunate that it did not work as planned after using for a few hours. I am now getting stuttering sound when I play Spotify. No difference on sound volume. Loud or soft it will start stop constantly When I am in the Amazon Alexa app, I notice that the music will keep pausing and playing I tried to turn on and off and it works fine initially but after 30 mins same issue. I switch back to the original power and is fine now. Really wanted to like this but have to return it now. I’m using it with an usb c power adapter and no issue with my echo dot 3rd Gen so far.l Playing music and was able to get up to volume 6. Did not test beyond because it was too loud with music. I use a usb c to usb a adaptor to connect this cable to a usb c power adapter that can supply 3A. I believe u will need that to power the music at higher volumes. Have not tested on battery as my intention is to free up a power socket.
