Q: Where does Ghirardelli source it’s cocoa from?

Ghiradelli is owned by Lindt, which gets their cocoa from West Africa, Ghana specifically. Africa is the area of concern for labor issues related to cocoa production (child labor, slavery, etc) but not all African cocoa comes from slave or child labor. Ghiradelli never directly addresses the issue on their sustainability web page and they don't advertise their free trade or fair trade practices so I imagine some digging would reveal that kind of labor on at least some of their farms. If you want to be sure, buy chocolate sourced from South American cocoa beans or from companies with fair trade labels.

Q: Is this so dark it’s actually black or just an intense brown? How sweet is it?

It is dark brown, darker than milk chocolate but certainly not black or even intense brown. It has 26g of added sugar. It doesn't taste sugary but but more sweet and richer than good dark chocolate. I prefer to make it even richer with unsweetened vanilla almond milk which gives a bit of a nutty flavor and then I add a heaping tsp of Andies Candies mint baking chips which adds even more sugar but the combination is amazing.

Q: Is this a hot chocolate mix or do you have to add sugar?

It has sugar in it (26g per 3 Tbsp serving). I would consider it a Hot Chocolate mix. I actually use it to make my daily Mocha and find the taste great!

Q: What is the percentage of Cacao in this product as it doesn't show in the ingredients?

It doesn’t say percentage amount, it is the 2nd ingredient listed. Contains 32% sugar, but my husband enjoys it.
