After reading the reviews for this bird feeder that mentioned poor construction and pieces broken off during shipping I was a bit hesitant to place my order . I was afraid that I was going to be disappointed with the quality & condition but mine arrived fully intact with all the parts firmly attached. Since it's assembled with staples I figured it would need gluing or screws for reinforcement but it already seems very sturdy.I wanted a large feeder and this one is even bigger than I expected. It looks really nice and it's spacious enough to easily accommodate bigger birds like bluejays right along with the inevitable squirrels.

I purchased this feeder because of its size as I was looking for the largest fly-thru feeder I could find even though some reviews had warned that it could arrive broken or a part separated. Mine came with half the roof off. After repairing it I decided to make a few enhancements. I raised the roof by 3/4 of an inch, used stainless steel screws to secure the joints & and added perches (see the photos) around the base to make approach to the feeder as easy as possible, especially for larger birds such as cardinals & blue jays. I roofed it using shingles cut from cedar shims but as the photo shows some of them warped due to the winter weather because they were too thin. So in the spring I will remove the shingles and replace them with 2 or 3 wide overlapping cedar boards on each side of the roof. As some reviewers suggested I applied 2 coats of stain to increase longevity. After finishing all this I mounted it and added various types of bird seed. I am new to bird feeding this year and was curious how long it would take the birds to find it. It took a few days but once they found it this feeder became the most used of all my feeders. I have only had it up since November and my regular visitors are the black capped chickadees, juncos, white breasted nut hatches, downy woodpeckers, red bellied woodpeckers, blue jays, cardinals & house sparrows. More species should show up in the spring. So to sum up my recommendation if you are willing to put the work in this is a good feeder which will easily attract many bird species.

Bird Feeder
This is nice looking and is quite large which is nice and the bottom is great because it helps keep the birdseed dry but the wood used for this is very soft and it is put together with staples and as soon as I set it up the staples pulled out and the wood on one side split.

What has happened to quality construction? Disappointed.
The bird feeder itself is large, which was a plus;however the quality of the construction is unfortunately, lacking. The two sections of wood that comprise the width of the fame- one piece was lying in the box-never attached;the other piece, was falling off. My husband had to wood glue and install screws for both sections;which was a bit precarious, as the barely attached section of frame, has a split-line.Given the cost of this feeder for just some wood and a screen-bottom for the seeds, I would have expected better quality. My last wooden, bird feeder, that had a sliding, removable, screen for the seeds, that you could clean (this one you can't-it's fixed, not removable) lasted 30-years. This bird-feeder, definitely will not.

Terrific Feeder! Great for attracting larger birds!
I love this feeder. It is attractive and well made. I read the previous reviews about poor packaging and all, but risked it anyway and I'm glad I did. It arrived intact and very well and carefully packed with an abundance of the plastic pillow type filler. I have other feeders for the small birds but had nothing suitable for the larger species until I got this. I agree with some people that it would be more confidence-inspiring if wood screws had been used rather than staples, but everything seems very solid, stable, and securely attached, so I don't think there is anything to complain about. I also think that real craftsmanship is shown in the way the roof pieces meet in a clean, overlapped angle calculated to shed the rain. The perfs in the metal screen of the base are quite small, too, providing excellent drainage but not allowing the kinds of food suitable for this size of feeder to pass through. I have other feeders for the tiny birds and their tiny seeds! I would definitely recommend this feeder to my friends.

Love it!!!
This is great! We have band-tailed pigeons (not a common type) that migrate thru. Started with one years ago, but now is a flock of about 50. This feeder can hold almost 20 birds at once - just ordered another one. It did arrive a little "loose" but it comes in one piece and is a large item to ship. My husband used wood screws to shore it up so it's now very sturdy and should hold up for years. He mounted it on a tree stump so it can handle the large birds.

Great design, sub-optimal quality
I love the design.Price was decent.Quality /workmanship falls rather short.Using it as delivered I don't think it would hold up well for long.I used 2 coats of a stain w/ polyurethane product and it turned out a beautiful finish. Also reinforced the whole thing with screws, as the cheap staples holding it together weren't going to hold up long.As long as your willing to invest some extra time finishing and reinforcing it, you should end up with a great product. If you don't want to take the time to do that, then I wouldn't waste your money.
