Best air compressor I've ever had
After comparing a lot of different products and reading a lot of reviews went with this air compressor for my tires. I am a stickler for keeping the tires on my vehicles at their recommended pressures, especially my motorcycle tires!! I wanted a compressor that was fast and could handle up to 55 psi (tires on my camper van). I also wanted a compressor of good quality that would last. I have 2 old junk compressors that are useless. I had 2 concerns purchasing this compressor. First, I did not think I would like the screw on tire chuck, especially for my motorcycle tires where the valve stems are more difficult to get at and in fact I purchased an angled chuck for that anticipated problem. Well, the angled chuck I bought was unnecessary. This screw on chuck is easier, works better and is more secure than the typical clamp type chuck. My next concern was that the unit is powered by an auto 12 v aux outlet requiring a minimum of 15 amps/180 volts. I was not able to figure out how many amps and volts go to my aux outlet and figured that an a/c plug in unit would have more power. Bottom line....no problem. Have used the unit plugged in to 2 different vehicles w engine on and have not blown any fuses. I think just about any modern vehicle would be able to handle the power reqmts. If I had found a good, low cost ac model I would have gone with that. I put air in the tires at home in my garage 95%, portability was not a reqmt. Anyway this one is very portable. PROS: 1. Well built quality unit, not a piece of junk that won't last. 2. Inflates tires fast and is not excessively loud and can inflate up to 60 psi. 3. Built in pressure gauge surprisingly accurate....reads 3-5 psi high...in the ballpark (to get accurate reading of gauge switch power off. I overinflate about 5 psi and then use a more accurate gauge to bleed air to accurate pressures). 4. I'm sold on the screw on chuck. 5. Comes with a carrying case (cheap and small).....bonus!! CONS: 1. 12 v plug is too short. Barely able to fill right rear camper van tire plugged in to dash aux outlet. (So....that's why they offer a 12' extension package for $8 more....) 2. Running the car while using the compressor is more annoying that if the car was not running....to me. Best air compressor I've ever owned. IMPORTANT: You MUST have the car running for this compressor to get enough power and not drain your battery. I believe this is true of all portable 12v compressors, so if your not getting enough power to your compressor, definitely start the engine and run the vehicle while using it.

Handy and Efficient
Great little air compressor that works and is made to be portable. I bought this in the hopes of having something easy to use to inflate car tires for the family as needed. With 5 cars it's a pain to pull out a large compressor every time you need to inflate one tire a few PSI. I tested this right away and it brought a pesky tire with a consistent slow leak from 20psi to 28psi in a matter of seconds. I'd guess it took me about 30seconds total, but that was due to having to check the psi and then reattach the compressor to get the right psi. You learn quickly that the gauge works well when it is first attached, but once it is turned on the gauge goes a bit goofy. Not sure why, even when it was off after inflating it didn't read very accurately, but upon reattchment it read right on. If possible I'd take off a half star for this. Only a half because you learn rather quickly how to compensate for the inaccurate reading. The second time I inflated this size tire I was able to get the psi Spot on to where I wanted it. Outside of that the compressor is exactly what I was hoping for. It's small, light, quiet with rubber feet on the bottom to silence vibrations, attaches quickly and it's easy get it working. Some unexpected positives: - comes in a nice canvas bag with a top handle for easy stowing and portability - compressor valve screws on to the tire valve, feels secure and you know you are doing it right - unit comes with two adapters attached onto the unit Things I hadn't thought about: - when you switch to work on the other side of the car you likely have to remove the power from the car power/lighter. Not a big deal but thought I'd mention it. - when you attach and remove the air valve it lets out a very small amount of air from the tire

My favorite brand of tire inflator... get one for every car!
A tire inflator like this is something that you should really keep in every car you have. Not only does it let you easily adjust your tire pressures at home (which you should do regularly, especially when the outside temperature is changing between seasons), but it gives you peace of mind that you can inflate your tire should you have a flat while out on the road. Even if you have a spare tire it’s often easier to simply inflate the tire if you have a slow leak and then drive to a tire shop. Also, some new cars are now coming with their own tire inflators (typically bundled with a container of the goo stuff that’s supposed to seal leaks). These OEM tire inflators tend to be much slowly than the Viair unit and the tire goo just creates headaches later when it’s time to scrape it off the inside of the wheel. I recommend you also pick up a tire plug kit if you don’t already have one. The combination of a tire plug kit and a tire inflator allow you to fix many tire issues yourself, often permanently without the need to replace the tire or even go to a shop. I have an earlier mode of this inflator and it has worked flawlessly for me for 10 years and is still going strong. I recently needed to add another inflator and found that the old model is no longer made and this one has replaced it. It comes in a nice zippered storage bag that is just barely big enough to hold the inflator and cables. This is a good thing though because it keeps the space usage at a minimum when you have it in your trunk. The inflator is very easy to use. Simply plug it into your car’s 12 volt outlet (“cigarette lighter”). Once it’s plugged in a useful bright white LED light on the front of the unit will turn on. A nice addition if you find yourself on the side of the road at night. To inflate a tire just screw the air hose onto your tire’s valve and flip the power switch. The inflator works very quickly. If you turn the unit off and leave the air hose connected you can get an accurate tire pressure reading from the built-in dial gauge on top. I found this gauge to be just as accurate as a separate dial gauge I carry, so if you only have the inflator you can rely on it being accurate. The sides of the inflator have storage for the included accessories for filling up sports balls and other inflatables such as pool toys. The bottom of the inflator has nice stand-off rubber feet that do a good job at isolating the vibrations from the unit it so it doesn’t try to “walk away” while it’s on. If you don’t have one of these, it’s time to get one.

Good build quality, it doesn't rattle if you place it on the ground, the cable is long enough to reach all four wheels without problems. It inflates very quickly just make sure you car's power outlet meets the specifications, if not, then you can always get an adapter that you connect directly to the battery. I got an adapter just to be sure and it works great.

I was very excited to get this hoping that my tire inflating woes were finally coming to an end. Things started off encouragingly when it took a little more than 3 minutes to inflate the first tire from 18PSI to 36PSI. But soon thereafter it the fuse. The next day I replaced the fuse and tried again, it longer to inflate and the fuse blew up sooner than before. The trend continued for a third time and I'd had enough. This pump would be better off with crocodile clamps so that it could directly draw power from the battery. It doesn't seem to share a durable relationship with power outlets of all cars. Have requested a return from Amazon.

This little pump is very fast and runs reasonably quiet compared to other small air pumps. It looked bigger in the pictures but is really quite small. Don't let the size bother you as it runs nicely and pumps lots of air. I use it to fill a small air tank used as an air blower for cleaning electrical switches and small carbs on mopeds etc. It looks like a little engine and is handy to move around with the built in handle. Gauge is good and has a power light and off/on rocker switch. So far I think these VIAIR pumps are about the best small pump available. (They have one a bit larger as well that pumps a bit more air and up to 150 psi.) This 85P model pump can be used for auto tires, motorcycles, bicycles and others. I see no problems with it but don't expect a large sized unit when it comes. It is built well and I find no apparent faults with it for a small fast economical air pump. (no tank) *****
