Perfect for shredding cheese
We have only used this item for shredding cheese and it has cut our shredding time to almost nothing! Cheese has to be cut to fit into this shredder, but it works very well. Extremely easy to clean - the shredding assembly comes off and can be put into the dishwasher. Easy to use. Well worth it.

A real work horse!
This was a wedding shower gift so I can't review this particular one. However, I've had a salad shooter since they were the new kid on the block and absolutely love it. They have upgraded the look of the body but the cones are the same. It comes with 2 cones, a medium shredder and a slicer. You can find additional cones for purchase so I added 2 extra cones to the gift, both fine shred and large shred. I wish there was a thicker cut slicing cone but so far I haven't found one. My mother slices a lot of her veggies for vegetable soup with this versatile appliance, while I primarily shred cheese and carrots. When it comes to cleaning, an old toothbrush is your friend, cleaning the holes in the cone without shredding your sponge or cloth. The faster you wash the parts, the easier to clean. Cheese can be tough but if you rinse in hot water first, it seems to melt away. Do not leave the cones sitting in very soapy and hot water for an extended period of time. I learned this the hard way. Other than the cutting surface and the motor, this is primarily plastic. Eventually, it gets brittle but it takes a long time. Mine is yellowing somewhat, and the cord is getting stiff. I lost cones because I soaked them, over and over, and it shortened their shelf life. It's a real work horse. I can shred massive amounts of zucchini, carrots and cheese quickly and efficiently, wash up in about 5 minutes and move on. I can't live without mine. It makes food prep much easier.

I like this product.
I had a salad shooter many years ago and decided to order another one. This one works well and I am glad to have it.

Makes shredding a pleasure
I have wanted a Salad Shooter for a long time. A number of years ago, I bought a Cuisinart appliance to do whatever a Salad Shooter could do. It was a terrible machine that was way underpowered and failed at even the simplest chores. I thought it was my machine, but the replacement was the same. This machine does a great job of shredding cheese, carrot and cabbage. I'm sure it will be perfect for potatoes and cucumbers too. It too feels a bit underpowered and that's the reason I deducted a point. Also, I find the chute quite small. I know there is another model with a bigger chute, but I think this one should have a larger opening too. I like that the machine is light and simple to dismantle for cleaning. Cleaning takes just a minute and that makes it much more likely that I'll grab it when I need to get a small job done. I find that taking out the food processor seems like a big ordeal, but setting up the Presto Salad Shooter is not. It's also fun to use and to see the chopped vegetables emerging.January 2017. I initially gave this 4 stars but I use it almost every day and it works just like it should, I have increased it to 5 stars. Mostly, I shred cheese. Occasionally, I shred carrots, potatoes or beets, shave chocolate or chop nuts. It is not the most powerful device but it does what I need it to do. I recently bought a full set of cones for different shreds and slices and a professional model as a gift for my mom. I wish I had bought the professional model myself which is a bit bigger and has larger cones and shoot, but I didn't realize it would be something I would use so much.

It is a great little shredder but has a struggle with cheddar cheese.
This just died after 5 years of use. I actually loved this because of its compact size and ease of use. But it struggled with cheddar cheese which was the main thing I bought it for. After a few cubes the cheese would gum up inside the grater and I would have to take it apart and clean it. I just read an article on line that said to put the cheese in the freezer for half an hour and spray the blade with salad oil. This might have been fine but I left the cheese in the freezer too long and it was frozen solid. I did not get through the first block. The stress was too great. Something cracked and now it makes a horrible noise. It already had a crack in the frame which was not affecting its performance. I have ordered a new and more powerful grater but this one would have lasted longer if I had not overworked it. Cheddar was the only thing it struggled with.

So much faster than a hand-held grater
We had one of these for years and it made grating anything so much faster and easier that when my elderly mother moved to independent living, we got another so both households had one. For older folks who still cook, it is far easier to use this to grate or shred food than a hand-held which requires more muscle than you think. Cleaning is fussy but not terrible for specialized equipment and it's not huge so it doesn't hog storage space. Overall, this thing is fabulous. If you need to make large amounts of shred (we do carrot muffins and salads that require several cups of shredded raw carrots each), this is a very nice item to have around.

Very reliable shop with genuine products. Will definitely buy again!
The Presto electric salad shooter also slices or shreds vegetables, fruits, cheeses, and other foods for salads, pizzas, tacos, desserts, and more. Take the work and mess out of making salad by simply pointing the shooter and firing one ingredient after another into your salad. The shooter is simple to use--the interchangeable slicing and shredding cones slip in easily, plus the base wipes clean with little effort. All other parts are dishwasher-safe. The shooter's compact size makes it easy to store virtually anywhere, including in a drawer. The one-speed shooter comes with a feed chute, food pusher, and slicer/shredder discs.
