Interesting book, IMHO
This book appears to me to be an attempt to portray the popular image of trolls to America. The book includes stories, descriptions of how they were told in a family setting, discussions of folklore collectors, artists, and so forth who were inspired by the folklore, etc.Despite of the fact that (or perhaps even because) this is not a scholarly but rather a popular book, this helped me see the folklore for what it is, as a living and deeply embedded tradition with a powerful and complex yet still living soul. The areas of the book which appear to be "errors" from certain scholarly angles actually contributed greatly to my understanding of and appreciation for this area of folklore. On the whole I would highly recommend this book.

Full of good content but...
It's a very good book in all. It's full of good stories, perhaps the most common and well known one's. But I think that it might need a few other less known stories. That's why I only give it four stars, because it need a few more less known stories. In all a very good book, and I recommend it to people who are beginners at the subject and don't know too much about it.

nice collection of stories
my husband and i purchased this book, along with "scandinavian ghost stories," while on vacation this summer. our friend liked them so much that we purchased a copy of each book for him here. this is a nice collection of stories for anyone interested in the subject - great bedtime stories for (older) children and grown-ups alike

Good read
I'm a 30 year old mythology and folklore nerd and I thoroughly enjoyed the stories in this book. If I had kids I'd read them these. Great stories for all ages.

Delightful
Very interesting and unique. Magical trolls have a long and storied history as deliverers of moral messages and scary tales to kids of yore.

GUD!
TROLLS...what is not to love about trolls? Some are old tales you've heard before, and they are told like you're sitting around a campfire. Gud! Gud! Gud!

nice book
Well written book, great Norwegian troll tales within, there is a little bit of mythology how the trolls came to be at the start of the book. The book did arrive a little scuffed up though.
