Where do i plug the usb into to power it?

The Wenter RCA to HDMI Converter requires 5VDC, 1amp input. The USB cable that comes with it is ~2ft long, the side that plugs into the converter is a micro-USB, the side that plugs into the TV (or powerbrick) is standard size USB. You can plug it into the USB port on your TV if there is one or you can buy a USB power brick. Look for these specs to buy the brick: 5VDC output, 1amp or larger, regular size female USB port.

Has anyone tried using this to connect a soundbar to a tcl tv? will it work?

Honestly, I don't know. But I don't think it would work. Soundbars usually connect to the audio output jacks on a TV. And this converts incoming RCA signals to HDMI.

Is there a separate power cord needed to be purchased in order for this to function properly?

It comes with a power cord but no adapter. So you still have to find a way to power it on.
