Well, it's Mellick. Of course it's good.
Mellick delivers again. This book, just like all the rest, is fantastic. I loved every page. And, as usual, it wasn't what I expected. That's Mellick's great gift. He knows how to convince you that you know what you're getting into and then give you even more than you thought you were going to get. All his books are incredible. If you have enjoyed any of his books, you'll like this one too. I promise.

The suburbs are creepy...
Tony and Tammy are running late to a dinner party being given by Tammy's boss. As soon as they drive into the gated community, they find themselves in the middle of a maze of identical streets and houses. Tony is lost. Not only does he lose his way, but he also loses his wife. Now is he faced with trying to find his missing wife, running out of gas, and possibly starving, as he cannot find his way out of the neighborhood either. And that is just the beginning...Mellick has done it again. I really loved this book. Not only is it relatable, as I'm sure most people have felt suffocated by the stereotypical sheep-like suburbs in Western society, but most people have been lost at some point. This story is more subtle than his other stories, which I definitely appreciated, but at the same time, it is very eerie. And let's not forget the cover...so cool! This is a great book to start virgin bizarro readers on, but that is not to say that any bizarro fan, new or seasoned, wouldn't like this book. It is creepy, fun, and a little slice of Mellick heaven.

Kawai Kazuki would be ashamed by this
I became intrigued by this book as I am a major fan of the Japanese Band Ultra F*****s, so I ordered this from Amazon. When I got it, I found out that it was not a novel but a novella, and slim one at that: it's 95 pages long, printed in large font, generously spaced and with plenty of white area (including 2-3 pages between each of the book's eight chapters), the tale probably has only about 20,000 words; I'd call it a short story in book format.Author Carlton Mellick III is ambitious, trying to create a new literary genre called "bizarro", although there's nothing too bizarre about this book, which seems to be largely modeled on the Guitar Wolf movie, "Wild Zero". In the tale, our heroes Tony and Tammy drive into an Arizona gated community where every home looks the same, quickly becoming lost to the world. The gated community becomes a maze, the homes and their inhabitants inhuman and sterile, a one-eyed girl with a goldfish mohawk (that's the "bizarre" of bizarro talking there) enters the picture, as eventually also do the Ultra F*****s themselves, Kawai Kazui, Tom Nagata and Izumi Headache. The Ultra F*****s leave destruction wherever they go, spouting nonsense phrases "Ultra jet lifestyle! Ultra **** them dead", making it clear that Mellick has never really observed the actual Ultra F*****s themselves, which have plenty of nonsense phrases of their own, like "Do you like punk? We are psychedelic warrior" and so many others. The story ends with a revelation of sorts and another orgy of destruction. Mmmm...

Meh, interesting premise, just sort of boring a repetive to me.
This story started off as a fevered dream panic attack for me, with becoming lost in an unfamiliar place that all looks the same. I thought that was interesting bit it quickly got boring. That was until the Ultra F**kers came along and made things a little bit more fun. But still, I found the plot boring and repetitive. I sort of coasted along until the end just to see how things would turn out. One thing that got to me was why in the world would Tony still want to be with Tammy?! She seems like such a self absorbed bitter woman. So I dunno, this story just didn't quite hit me like most of CM3's work does, i think he can do better.

Crazy rebuilding suburbia.
I absolutely loved this novella by Carlton Mellick III. At first, it just seems like your general getting lost on the way to a company party story, and then takes a complete 180 turn, and drives you straight into a flaming brick wall. From houses where nobody lives (or do they?), to drive thru food stops where nobody works, a one eyed woman with fish for hair, a city that is building itself, and a troupe of crazy Japanese men who have spray painted part of the town to their liking, this novella is just all sorts of nuts. The ending part of the book also punches you in the face with a whole bunch of craziness that you just can't get anywhere else but with a Mellick book. Even though the novella isn't very long, I still say it is worth the money, a great quick read.

A Quick But Fun Read.
I won't bore you with what the book is about as you can find all of that in the product description and from other reviews. As the title of my review stated the book is short (around 90 pages) but Mellick doesn't waste any of your time with fluff. He gets straight to to the point and you'll have fun wondering where the story is headed and how it will end.

Screw Suburbia!
This is one of my favorite Mellick novels. In fact, I think I'm overdue for a re-read. This one has a definite theme; the rapid growth and consumption caused by urban cloning...er, development. Such an engaging, intelligent read. But, of course, this IS a Carlton Mellick novel so you can rest assured there is plenty of absurd mayhem thrown into the mix.

Great
A bizarre look at how we live in modern society. One of Mellicks shorter books, but superb writing as ever.

Gated Community labyrinth
My favorite mellick book is set in Eagle Hills gated community. Tony finds himself lost after trying to go to a dinner party, after several hours of driving around all the streets look the same and there is something wrong with the people staring through the windows. An excellent setting with awesome characters and an ending you wont see coming.
