Higher Capacity At A Lower Price
UPDATE November 28, 2015I am downgrading my review to three stars because this battery after two years of use is no longer holding a charge. It's not that I'm not recommending purchasing this battery. But be aware that other brands may last longer.I would figure that the Canon brand battery would last twice as long as this one, four years instead of two. Take that in account when comparing the cost of a replacement battery.*****I purchased a Canon PowerShot S100 recently. I normally order a backup battery as a matter of course, and am especially glad I did it for the S100. Why? Because this thing eats batteries for breakfast! When GPS is on, one battery will not power this camera for even eight hours of casual shooting!I mention this because this battery is also available from several suppliers in a two-pack. If I had known that the S100 and its cousins were such power hogs, I would have ordered the two pack. Now on to the battery itself: you'll note that the product listing includes several pictures, and one of them shows a battery rated at 1400 mAh. The Canon brand is 1120 mAh. I received the 1400 mAh "For Canon" (not by Canon) version in the secondary product images. I also did not receive a terminal cover pictured in the main image, which shows 1200 mAh, but the battery does come in a plastic bag within a cardboard box.I did manage to shoot off about ten or so shots without flash while the S100's low battery indicator was flashing, which is reasonable performance. This leads me to believe the 1400 mAh rating is correct. So I am receiving as good or better service from this battery than the Canon branded version.Five stars for a good battery at a great price: about 20% of (80% less than) the Canon original brand. And buy two: you'll need them both!

Good so far, small problems at first
I purchased this NB-5L Battery for my Canon Powershot SX230HS from BestDealUSA. The package had shipped a little late and so they had granted me a 10%-off promotion code for the delay; very nice customer service.Upon opening the package, there was a a small yellow box, similar to the size and design of those small snap fireworks you buy for kids on the 4th July to throw on the floor. The box was labeled "Digital Video Battery for NB-5L". Inside was the battery surrounded by thin plastic and bubble wrap. The put both my original NB-5L and this new one in each hand and both felt about the same weight. The battery itself looks like the last two pictures that Amazon had registered for this listing, 3.7V @ 1400mAh. I popped in the battery without charging it and it seemed to boot up just fine. I did notice it was a bit of a tight fit at first but you get used to how to put it in after a couple of times. It registered as fully charged out-of-the-box. I took a picture on auto and everything looked normal. I put the new battery in the official Canon battery charger and the orange light lit up, indicating it was charging.I waited about 30 minutes and the light switched to green, indicating it was done charging. I popped it back into my camera, and took a picture again and it was fine. I went into manual mode and tried adjusting aperture and shutter speed for my environment and noticed that the preview on the LCD was not changing. I popped in the original battery and the problem went away. So I put back the new one, and the problem came back; tried swapping for the original again and still same the problem this time. I went into my camera's settings and "Reset to default settings". Everything was working fine, swapped out both a couple times and the problem went away, small glitch I guess.I haven't test battery life yet, I go on a school snow trip next week and I'll try testing then and update this review later.

This battery did not work on my Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Camera - Voltage output was at 4.2 vs the 3.7 it should be
At first I thought this battery was DOA. When i put this into my Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Camera it did not power up. Simply a flash came on the screen and then nothing. So I decided to check the voltage output with my voltage tester. - Voltage output was at 4.2 vs the 3.7 it should be putting out so its more than the camera can handle.I would like to give this another try so if you are the vendor and are reading this send me another battery and I will update my review.

Good backup battery
I bought this battery before a trip to France and England so that we could drain a battery taking pictures all day without worrying about battery life. It's about 70% as long lasting/ durable as the factory battery, which is pretty impressive considering the very low cost. I would absolutely reccomend this to anyone with a Canon powershot SH230.

Very short life
Granted, I did not expect much for the price a paid for these batteries (I bought two). We got them before the holidays and charged them up. Both batteries only lasted for a night or two of holiday photo taking before dying. Maybe 30-40 photos each. I am obviously looking for more life than this. This wasn't even close to the life of the OEM battery. I waited to try both batteries before I did a review and they are identical. They do work... just not for very long.

it worked for a few weeks..
After that the Canon S100 charger would not charge it.I am guessing because this is not a Canon Battery but if I can't chargeit I can't use it. Good while it lasted. and Good price too.
