Q: How can soot buildup on the inside top be cleaned? It is visible from outside through the pattern. Will the seams stand up to washing the top part?

There is some outside discoloration. It’s not soot it’s yellowing

Q: Do you light the incense and then put the pillar top back on over the bottom?

I had a hard time with this as well because when lighting the incense and putting the pillar back on top, the incense of course goes out, but it is difficult and have the same problem if lighting the incense and trying to put it in after!
