it started working immediately from box to fountain. it would not stay centered, and the bowl was losing water several times a day. we only use the very short piece, and it was still floating to side of bowl, and water was being emptied very quickly. i ordered a 2.5 iron disc (used for weight lifting), and attached it on the bottom with 2 rubber bands! now it stays centered. it also works fine without direct sunlight. we are pleased with it especially for the price. if you want yours centered, and your bowl is deep enough, this is the weight i purchased https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OY7WUW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It’s only been three days, but this little fountain has been working great so far. The bird bath where it sits eventually becomes shady in the late afternoon, but the fountain keeps running off the battery for a few hours. So it performing exactly as I hoped it would. Would buy again.

Piece of crap. Quality control must be pretty poor. Didn't work right out of the box. After one day of sitting in full sun, the pump still doesn't turn on for more than a few seconds before shutting down. If you pick it up and move the motor in its mount, sometimes it will come on for a few seconds, but when placed in water, it immediately stops. Even when oriented directly at the full sun, the motor doesn't run. You sure do get lots of little plastic attachments you can achieve different spray effects, though. It would be nice if I could actually see how any of them work, but it hasn't run more than 10 seconds at a time in the two days I've been messing around with it. It's just not worth the trouble.

I read reviews on Amazon and other sites before ordering, and wasn't sure how well a solar fountain would work at my house because we don't get much "full sun". After reading reviews that said even a cloud or leaf blowing in the breeze would make solar fountains stop, I decided to get this one with a battery backup. Even then, I was skeptical because I only have a few hours of direct sun on my birdbath and I wasn't sure if it would be enough to run the fountain and charge the battery at the same time.I am very happy with how well this works! It starts off with just little spurts of water in the morning while it's still in the shade (which is understandable because it's in the shade), but once the sun hits it, it works perfectly! My birdbath is only in the sun from about 9:30am until around 2:30pm, and the fountain works perfectly from the time the sun actually hits it until around 4:30pm. Even if clouds go by! After around 4:30'ish, it returns to the little spurts, which again is fully understandable because it's been in the shade for a couple of hours.I'm very happy I ordered this fountain, and would recommend it!

Easy to assemble, takes 5-10 minutes, if reading instructions. Suction didnt work on my terra cota, but it might stick better on smooth ceramic. As other reviewers mentioned, I did need to place a few stones in bath to keep it from floating around. Only negative is it needs constant sun to work. Wouldnt reccomend if you live in rainy or cloudy climates. I will follow up later this summer to see how well it withstands the Arizona heat.

The 2 pumps I purchased work exactly as advertised. Last summer I did an hour or 2 of research, mainly reading reviews, then decided to order 2 of these solar fountains. They pump perfectly and run awhile after sundown. I recently dug the fountains out of storage and they are running fine. These are like any mass-produced product, there are the occasional lemons. Considering they are made in our favorite country, China, there are definitely going to be some lemons. I hate buying their products but at this price, they are the only show in town. The take-away from my research was that they have good customer service and try to make things right by promptly replacing faulty fountains. Again, considering where these fountains are made, you might even get a second faulty fountain. If so, wear them out and have them send yet another replacement or get your money back. Don’t ya love these trinkets that are "Made in China"!

Bought one of these and it worked well (still works, in fact). Bought a second one and it barely worked/never worked properly. We missed the return window but are pretty bummed. We noticed the second one was slightly different from the first. Either way, it seems the quality is mixed. I would recommend buying with caution and being prepared to return if it doesn’t work.

We bought this in late February when sunny days were intermittent. This fountain worked great at first, though it did require a bit of futzing around. I had to pull it out to fully charge the battery for a few hours if I wanted a steady stream. If it was fully charged, it would run steadily for a couple of hours, then start to spurt, scaring the living daylights out of any bird who happened to land before the spurt. I would just pull it out and fully charge the battery again. After a few weeks, it has completely crapped out though- it won’t charge at all. Something that I boasted of to my family -a solar powered fountain!- has become a piece of plastic junk.

All the illustrations SHOW A FOUNTAIN EFFECT OF BOUT THE SAME DIAMETER OF THE BASE,[20 cm] BUT DESPITE ALL MY EFFORTS, I COULD ONLY MANAGE A FOUNTAIN OF APPROXIMATELY THREE CENTIMETRES!! and it was not the effect I expected, so it will languish on the shelf in my garage until the next garbage collection day - which is next Thyrsday!

It has stopped working after a few weeks. Didn't ever really get going.The day after I posted my review, it miraculously started making an effort.... spasmodically but better than before!
