short stories very helpful for reviewing verbs
I've been studying Italian for a few years, working with a tutor and taking classes here and in Italy. I have found that students are taught something for a week or so, then the instructor moves on. I need more review then this, and this book was very helpful in reviewing verbs for me. The stories work with one tense, over and over again. This type of repetition really helps seal the deal for me. Also, the vocabulary was helpful and I enjoyed the question format after the stories. The answers to the question were on the same page, so it was easy to check, as opposed to books where readers have to flip from the page to the answers at the end of the book. That being said, I don't think this is a book for real beginners. Use it after you've had your basic exposure to Italian and it will help you review and strengthen what you know. I noticed a reviewer said this book is not translated perfectly and after a few years of study I know enough that most study tools are not. It's a cool feeling to catch mistakes, but don't let the mistakes prevent you from buying this book. It's really useful.

Makes the textbook much better
I bought the textbook to help me learn some Italian. I liked the fact that it has readings, but not being able to hear the text made it nearly useless for me. Adding the Audible book has made it much better. I believe I need both the audible and the text to cement the language more in my brain. Learning a language is hard, but I find this combined with Duolingo very helpful.

A good reintroduction to the language
I studied Italian for a few years mostly to read Dante & chase Ezra Pound but over the years away from classes I had lost much of it. These books are a good quick refresher.

A wonderful resource for your Italian learning
I loved this 3 book bundle. It's loaded with useful, practical information presented in an easy to access manner. Every helpful tip/recommendation you could want is contained here, they thought of everything. New vocabulary is highlighted in the reading selections and dialogues, then listed afterward with translations. All the reading activities have English translation. Comprehension questions help you validate you understood what you read. The short stories are interesting and contain cultural information to help you build on your knowledge of Italy as well. There are even some favorite Italian songs. The third portion, Italian phrases, is very helpful, containing a huge amount of everyday phrases to learn and add to your conversations.

Not Trustworthy or Reliable for Italian Instruction
Had I known that there would be this many Italian errors and confusing English explanations of Italian grammar in this book, I would not have bought it. I'd bought it to improve my Italian with beginning short stories. In partially reading through it, I have seen several fundamental errors in the book, things that should have been caught by a proofreader - things that even a beginning Italian student would catch. For example, on page 88, there is the question, "Quando costa?", which is translated as, "How much does it cost?" First-semester Italian students learn that the correct question is "QuanTo costa?" To add to this, some English explanations of Italian grammar are confusing. Finally, who are the authors of this book? I went to their "author page" within Amazon, and all I found was a pitch to sell more of their books. Are these authors native Italian speakers? Are they professors of Italian? At this point, I am seriously considering throwing this book away - literally. Because of all the errors and confusing instructions in the book so far, I will not rely on it further, and I will not donate it to anyone because I don't rely on it. No, I'm not an instructor in Italian: I'm just a detail-oriented student of the language who wants to ensure the highest quality of instruction.
