Northern Exposure: Season 4
M**1
One of the best series of the 1990s.
The fourth of six seasons of NORTHERN EXPOSURE, and my favorite. Contains some of the best episodes of the series.
O**!
I loved this series in the beginning
I loved this series in the beginning. However, the blond bar girl character did get on my nerves. She was pregnant in the first season, but she's not pregnant in the second season. And there's no baby! There was a clear main character goal in the first season, get back to NYC. But the main character is not a main character in the final season due to actor-studio contract disputes. So the goal, getting back to NYC, is not achieved. The series ends with other characters instead.I devour fiction, especially fantasy and science fiction. Westworld and Outlander are a couple of my current favorites. If the above shows don’t sound interesting here are a few of the series I really enjoyed watching more than once. I love good miniseries like Band of Brothers (2001), Frank Herbert’s Dune (2000), Into the West (2005), Lonesome Dove (1989), Pride and Prejudice (1995), Taken (2002) and The 10th Kingdom (2000) because they have beginnings, middles and endings, like a good novel.Other shows I’ve really enjoyed include Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), Breaking Bad (2008-2013), Cowboy Bebop (1998), Downton Abbey (2010-2015), Firefly (2002), Game of Thrones (2011-2019), The IT Crowd (2006-2013), Jericho (2006-2008), Lost (2004-2010), Rome (2005-2007), Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011), Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010), Stargate: SG-1 (1997-2007), Stargate: Atlantis (2004-2009), Star Trek The Original Series (1966-1969) and Star Trek Voyager (1995-2001). I didn’t list any contemporary series I’m following that don’t have an end date yet, not conducive to binge watching from beginning to finish, or the hundreds of other fantasy and science fiction shows I’ve watched. If you like reading try some of my favorite fantasy and sci-fi authors: Richard Adams, Palo Bacigulupi, Suzanne Collins, Abe Evergreen, Diana Gabaldon, Hugh Howey, George Martin, Brandon Sanderson, John Scalzi, and Andy Weir.

Northern Exposure begins to feel its age
I'm a little disappointed my box sets no longer come in little parkas, but then I've noticed that amazon doesn't ship exactly the same product overseas that they do domestically. Anyway, that is a small complaint for what was a great series, even if it started to drag a bit in the fourth season. Joel's anxieties get the better of him, and too many episodes focus on his extended internment and antagonistic relationship with Maggie. I wasn't sure what to make of Mike Monroe, either at the time of the show's airing or now. I think they got about as much mileage out of his allergy fixations as they could get, with Mike at one point parading down the main street of Cicely in Maurice's old space suit. Of course, he was the perfect foil for Maggie, who finally had a man sensitive to her wants and needs, but alas Mike had bigger ambitions once Maggie had cured him of his allergies. What really makes the show click in my mind is the evergrowing set of relationship between Marilyn, Ed, Dave the Cook and the expanding Native American community. One of the funniest episodes is when Adam Ant comes to town and tries to do a world music project with the Indians, which Ed dutifully films in black and white. However, the signature episode of this season has to be Marilyn's trip to Seattle, where Joel goes chasing after her, thinking she is ill-equipped to handle the big city. That episode really cemented their relationship and revealed Joel to be a very compassionate, if over-wrought, character.Along the way we get the return of Adam, the gourmet, as Maurice plans another one of his self-indulgent feasts, Holling trying to plant a seed, and Chris introduces Bernard to the world of fisticuffs, both physical and metaphysical, while still spinning his memorable tunes. Great series but you can see it is drawing to its end in the way Falsey and Brand seem to treat each episode as if it will be their last.

Alaska- Dorfgeschichten

Good times in Cicely
Many of my favorite episodes are in season four of Northern exposure. A really full season set with lots to enjoy. I have to say though I found the story with the germaphobe absurd and hoped it would go away soon. Maggie falling for a guy so paranoid of germs he can't go outside without a space suit on made it even more ridiculous. Just one sore spot though in an otherwise great season.

Best Archive series
The series, Northern Exposure, despite being nearly 20 years old now, is as fresh and entertaining as it ever was. I love the gentle and quirky humour, together with the human stories, often with a touch of magic and lots of eccentricity. This was a superb series, with excellent cast and story lines. Favourite characters have to be Ed the young, gentle Native American man who is mad about old films, and lives in a world of his own. Marilyn, the Native American doctor's receptionist who seemingly says almost nothing, then comes out with one-liners that crack you up, and "Chris in the morning" the local d.j. and philosopher. They are all wonderful characters who will live on I'm sure, as they are timeless. The chemistry between Joel the hypo-eccentric doctor and Maggie who pilots the small plane, is wonderful. They all are! A favourite series of all time. Genius!
