OakRidge Garden Tools Hori Hori Knife
Very nice, well made.First off: This is NOT a hunting knife, it is a landscaping digging tool, used for digging around plants, as a dibble to make holes for seeds or seedlings, and so on.That being said, I fully intend to take on camping trips, fishing expeditions, etc., because it can function as a multi-purpose tool - everything from planting a seed to measuring/scaling a fish, to cutting small limbs for firewood, etc., etc., etc.Construction is straight forward. The tool is a single piece of 1/8” metal, with two wooden scales. The working portion has a cutting edge (sharp!) and saw blade on the back. Also, it is concave on one side, with a small ruler (6" & 150mm) heavily incised into it, in line with its original intended use.At this point it might be a good idea to point out that there is no real guard on tool, tho' the scales and hilt are configured to provide some protection against the hand slipping down onto the (sharp) blade. The only real negative is the sheath: It is of relatively lightweight leather, 0.1”/2.5mm thick, has no retaining strap, and could use a couple more rivets… Will probably make a new sheath for it, with heavier leather.

Feel like a ninja when gardening.
For some reason, I feel a little like a ninja when gardening with this Japanese tool. I was surprised at how effective the cutting edge is (I expect it to full). I wouldn't mind a tool that has a longer handle, but then it probably wouldn't be called a hori hori. My only complaint is that the corners of the handle could be a little more rounded. But I only notice this because I am a knife enthusiast and people really get into handle comfort. The tool definitely stands up to some serious testing - much more so than the stuff you typically get at Lowes or Home Depot. I love the rosewood handle. I suggest breaking it in the first day so you can treat it like a tool, not a work of art.

Very Nice Garden Tool
After reading many Amazon reviews on Hori Hori knives I chose this one and am very happy with the purchase. The knife blade is made of heavy gauge stainless steel that retains its edge even after digging in rocky, coral soil here in Florida. It has many useful features including a saw edge and depth gauge. The handle is wood with a comfortable shape and the blade is riveted in two places. I comes with a nice leather sheath with a belt clip. I used it to dig holes to insert Jobe's palm tree spikes. With this pre-preparation, the spikes could be hammered into the ground, intact, without using the plastic cap that is a pain to reuse. I also used the saw edge to saw off a dead robellini palm trunk. This was my first use of this type of garden tool and I would recommend it to anyone who needs an all-purpose garden hand tool. This unit, in particular, seems very well-designed and well-made.

I Recommend It To Most Any Gardener Types
Yes, I love my Hori Hori Knife. I feed homeless cats at an isolated bamboo grove, and you know how crazy bamboo trees get! I use my Hori Hori Knife to trim back bamboo branches, and to dig out stubborn bamboo roots and shoots, that are just spreading all over the place. Without my Hori Hori Knife, the bamboo threatened to spread all over the earth! I don't use garden gloves with my knife, but I do try to be careful with it. Also, I wipe off the knife after using it, but I haven't bought any oil to use on it yet. The knife is very versatile, and sharp, and the leather sheath is very convenient and safe, to store the knife in. Overall, I have no complaints about my new Hori Hori Knife, and I recommend it to most any gardener types. Linda P.

An excellent addition to the garden shed.
I love this tool. The handle is beautiful and I like the sheath with the clip option because I don't wear belts for the slot. I found out about this tool from a friend who had one, and she said it was the single most useful garden tool she has. I tried it at her house and it cut through weeds like butter. Boy, do I have a job for it in my yard. I've seen other reviews saying the blade points bent, but my friend has not had that problem. I saw what looked like the identical tool for $10 less on Amazon, but it didn't have a sheath clip, so I chose this one.

Most Important Tool In My Garden Box
This is the second Hori Hori Knife I've bought. The first was for me and after using it for several years I could not live without it in the garden. It, and pruners, are my two go to tools that I ALWAYS take with me when I need to weed, plant, transplant, or clean a garden area. I use it instead of a trowel. Mine has held up EXTREMELY well, and I take very good care of my tools. My daughter is starting her first garden as a married woman and this is for her. I know it will be just as useful. This is a tool I can not work without.

If you garden regularly, this shealth design makes a big difference.
Well made, full tang handle, nice leather sheath. I like the clip option on the sheath (others have just a belt loop, this has both), which is why I purchased this one. The hori-hori is my favorite gardening tool for weeding, digging, and planting in sandy to medium-hard soil. It's on my belt every time I work in the yard or am potting in the nursery.

High quality. Must have all purpose tool.
This is a high quality product. I have to say...it exceeded my expectations. The leather case is great and thick...I assume the other version will be as good a quality. The tool is fairly sizable. You can’t really see the measurements on the blade but it’s got a 6” blade and a good sized handle. It’s pretty much my go to tool now for dirty gardening work.
