More Fun Than Jewels
I'm using these brilliant pinwheel spinners to decorate a former garden bed next to the house, where I can't water because of termites. The way they sparkle and change color in the sunlight is more fun than jewels, so I ordered a second set and have put them outside all over the place. Happily the plastic shafts are unlikely to be eaten by termites, and they look well made and sturdy. They'll be getting Arizona sun all day all year, so I'm glad the reviews on durability are good. * UPDATE #1: After a week, the plastic shafts on two of my pinwheels mysteriously bent 30 degrees in the middle and could not be straightened out, staying as hard as rocks even in hot water (I didn't try a hair dryer). All the others have remained fine and in place despite several days of gusty wind. Although the vendor had no replacement shafts available for purchase, they graciously located some extras and sent them to me promptly. * UPDATE #2: I found a super way to secure the pinwheel spinners in the ground, with 12" galvanized wire stakes, package of 12 for $5.63 and free shipping from an Amazon vendor. The 1/8" diameter stakes are easily hammered into hard soil, and the pinwheel shafts fit over the stakes. So much easier than trying to force the shafts into the soil. UPDATE #3: After nearly a year, the some of the little stops in front of the wheels wear down and the wheels can fly off in a high wind. Quick way to fix this problem: cut a 1/2" square of thin, stiff plastic, poke a hole in the middle, cut a slit from one edge of the square to the hole, and slip it around where the original stop was.

Could be better with longer stems
I have had these a while now and they have held up really well. Very reflective and somewhat colorful. I put one out near the street and it was snatched within a couple days. They don't deter anything or if they do, not for long. The stem is a plastic straw basically. It is a little flimsy and way too short. Consider the fact that you need to stick the stem in the ground at least 6 inches. I also wish that the stem was flat or had a flat portion to prevent the pinwheel from pivoting in the wind. You may want them pivoting in the wind for your purposes but I wanted the pinwheel facing a particular direction. They might be worth a dollar apiece, but you have to figure shipping and the convenience of shopping at Amazon is worth something.Update 8/29/2018Mine lasted for about a year and I had to make repairs to get them to last that long. The nub at the end wears out and the pinwheel flies off. I attached a zip tie in place of the nub. The mylar loses its sheen over time.I won't be repurchasing for what they are asking now.

would be 5 stars but for a broken pinwheel
I bought the assorted color pack. These are very beautiful pinwheels and look great in my sunny backyard. The blades and sticks (straw-like) are thick and sturdy. They came packaged in one large bag that was in a large Amazon box so I thought they'd all be good. There was no way they were damaged in transit, yet one was broken. I hoped a connection had just popped open but no, the actual center peg was broken off. So of course I'm pretty angry that I lost $2+ on a broken pinwheel.Update: I used the wheels in my yard for a summer and a half, taking them down for the winter. One broke by the end of last summer and all were beginning to fade from constant sunlight and weather. I am very pleased! They held up beautifully and and were a lovely addition to my yard. We have several small trees protected by chicken wire cages and I laced them through the gaps, which kept them from moving. This year the cages will likely come down so I’ll find another spot for the next batch that I ordered today!

These Just Make My Heart Happy!!!!!
I am an absolute sucker for anything shiny. It used to be a family joke, when the kids wanted to get their way, they'd chant, "I'll give you something shiny....." Every spring I would put out fresh Wham-O holographic pinwheels in all my planters. I can't find them anymore, so I had the bright idea of checking Amazon, crossed my fingers, and bought two or three packs of these. These pinwheels are awesome! Better than the Wham-O ones I doted on for years. The colors are brilliant, they spin freely in the slightest breeze, the holographic effect is... shiny. Woot! I have a pinwheel in every planter, and put the remainder in a vase til I need them. It's like a happy happy vase of color. I think I almost like the vase full of them better than having them in the planters. They've been out for a couple of months now, in both covered and fully exposed planters, and no fading, no brittleness, and the price was most certainly agreeable. If you love frivolous, colorful, kitschy, totally useless eye candy, you will love these. I'd give these ten stars if I could. Check my other reviews and buy some of the little spring loaded butterflies from another seller, and you can just OD on giddiness.

Oh well...they're pinwheels...
UPDATE: 5.28.14 I am upgrading my review to 4 stars from my original 3 star review. Afterall....it isn't the fault of the product that they didn't work for our us. Again, they are pinwheels...still cheap, but parades, cemetery use where sadly they may get stolen or whatever else they can be used for....just not going to chase any critter...they're too smart...they will probably steel them and use them in the critter parade! What can I say...they are pinwheels. I did not expect them to be on such short stakes...I mean short. You don't get a whole lot of spin out of these. Don't expect them to last. I'm using them in garden beds to chase critters away from our veggies...since they really don't spin much I doubt the critters know they are there. We probably would not buy them again, however, perhaps for other uses than we purchased them for they would be good. Quite a number of people are giving them 5 stars....I liked Elizabeth's use for them in the cemetery...I would buy them again for this use and I could see using them in parades. Again, for our use they really did not work out....things could be worse!

Great buy!
I bought these last fall and attached them to my balcony rail to scare the pigeons. They're gorgeous in the sun, and ended up out there all winter (Canadian winter) and survived very nicely. None broke. I did lose one but only because it went over the balcony and down into the backyard, never to be seen again! Very sturdy, a good buy.
