Good for adults, too!
I find this book to be an excellent introduction to Colombia and a well made book. Sadly, even though the copyright is relatively recent, it may as well have been written in the 1990s as the author missed out on the major shifts that have occurred in Colombia in the last, say, 5 years, including major successes against rebel groups. I deducted one star for this reason.I bought this for my 9-year-old nephew but ended up keeping it. This is not Dora La Exploradora. This is a book young readers and thinkers will appreciate. Old ones too! Don't let the Children's Press imprint fool you. I may buy another for my nephew but if so I'll tell him Chapter 1 describes a Colombia of the recent past, not the Colombia of today.

Insightful book covering a full spectrum of topics on Colombia
I bought this as a Christmas present to some friends of mine who immigrated to the United States from Colombia a decade ago. Though written from an outsider's point of view and though it was smaller than I thought it would be, they thoroughly enjoyed this book and keep it on their coffee table. It is packed with information, and the photos are wonderfully done. It also covers a large variety of topics on Colombia beyond what outsiders normally hear about this nation. Overall, they are extremely pleased with this gift, and I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn a little more about other nations.

Good book for country research projects
Good book for country research projects. Will work for a very advanced 3rd grader, but is probably more suited to an upper elementary child.- From a Lower Elementary Montessori Teacher
