this book has helped me gain insight into the son riff, the Bo Diddley beat. And it is set aside now while I become a better player so I can make my way through the exercises. The CD breaks it down into bite-sized lessons...but I haven't got the chops yet to properly go through much of it. I think I will, because I love these rythms.

Great book to advance your music ability

If you can go through this material you should be able to play almost any latin gig..... ....Hector is an awesome player ( check him out on U Tube) once you get past chapter 7 he really takes the gloves off

I love this book. I am not a professional musician, but after a few years learning classical piano, I wanted to explore the world of salsa music. I do love salsa music, and learning about it with this book is definitly a lot of fun. I would not recommend this book for you if you just started playing piano. But if you have played for some time, you should be able to play the piano sheets on it. The only reason why I give this book 4 starts instead of 5 starts is because I find the book a little bit repetitive. The author basically uses 4 examples, and he builds up from them. I think the author should have used a little more variety. It's good for learning, but it becomes kind of boring to play the same thing over and over again with simple variations. He could have included some famous songs, or more different examples to make the book more entertaining. But I do think the book is fun to read, learn from, and play its music sheets. Definitly worth it for the price. I just bought the Latin Jazz Piano book from the same editor. I'll write a review about that one when I get it and read it. But what I expect is a similar book to this one, but with more variety. We'll see.

Almost half of this book provides many information about Salsa but NOT directly to Salsa Piano Techniques! These details are in abundance on the internet. After carefully read ALL details, play all scores in the book (it took less than 2 hours not couting listening to the CD), I concluded it have little value in Salsa Piano techniques! Followed a few links from Google, watched a few videos in YouTube relating to "Salsa Piano tutorial", I got much better instructional materials (quantity and quality) than this book. From the second day, after receiving book, I did not use it. I now can play a few Salsa riffs and song with the tutorial obtained via Google links and YouTube!
