Excellent stone
The media could not be loaded. Just what I needed! If I had to pick a starter stone it’d be this one. It cuts fast but it’s not super rough. It has a good hand feel and you can tell what’s happening.I was stepping from a Shapton pro120 to an 800 chosera. It worked but sometimes 120 is too much and 800 isn’t enough. This is a major upgrade from an India 100/320 combo. If I was starting my stone buying over again.. it would begin with this one.

What an amazing stone to change the geometry of your knife!
I couldn't find a Chinese cleaver I was satisfied with; and so I purchased a generic one that was fairly thick and it "wedge pushed" through food instead of sliced. I have an #800 grit and a #3000 grit stone; I wanted to change the geometry of my knife; and both my stones were too slow to do so. I was going to purchase a #120 grit but under advisement of my knife maker friend; he recommended that this #320 grit would take material off fast enough. And boy did it! I thinned my knife down probably 30%; and changed the roughly 19 degree angle; down to a 10 degree. Now my knife is insanely sharp. This isn't a stone I recommend for sharpening though!! I recommend this stone for repair of major knicks and deep scratches, or like me; if you want to change the thickness and/or the geometry of the knife. It takes a lot of material off REAL FAST. So be careful! It doesn't require soaking; which is another reason to love the stone; and I love the see through glass back; so you know which stone it is with confidence. Highly recommended!

fantastic stones
The Shapton stones are my favorite sharpening stones. Very nicely made and they do a great job. They might seem thin but they'll last a lot longer than you might expect. Just sprinkle some water on and sharpen, no need to soak, actually they should NOT be soaked.

fast cutting stone
This 320 Norton "glass stone" is a very hard stone and it cuts very fast. It's also very slow wearing. It's a true splash and go stone, soaking up no noticeable amounts of water at all. It's a thin profile stone that stores compactly. As it came from the factory, this stone side has sharp and rough edges. I cut my finger on a sharp edge while sharpening. Those sharp edges can be smoothed out using a diamond hone.

Flat is back!
Had to get one of these to fill out my progression which is now: Atoma 140, this stone, Naniwa Chosera 800, Suehiro Rika 5000, 1 micron diamond strop.I mainly use this after my Atoma 140 plate and it’s worked perfectly. It cuts some of the hardest steels I’ve put to it which has been: HAP40 at 65HRC and Aogami Super at 63HRC and it’s cut both steels very well without issue with haste.Stone comes very flat and does not need to be flattened but I occasionally work on yanagiba’s so I went ahead and flattened mine.Feedback from the stone reminds me of using my ceramic rod; which is to say it’s loud and scratchy. It does what it needs to well.Bigger and perhaps better stones might be out there but this one works. That’s all that matters and it does wear slowly in comparison to a King brand coarse stone I’ve had. Which by comparison could pass for a skateboard ramp after fair use as opposed to this which has maintained a very flat profile.

Works great!
It’s not for everyone to start with but is a fine ceramic glass stone, mid- range in price. Take a couple lessons before buying, or start with the $21 one. The Japan made stone only works as well as the person working it.

Take lil bit experience to Get it
It hasn’t wowed me. But I’m sure it’s me. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Now I feel it’s loaded with material and I can’t rinse it out What a lapping stone cost for these. Any way you believe in it and hope it improves for me .

Bought a King 1000/6000 grit stone but hated having to soak it before every use so I ...
Normally use oilstones to sharpen my knives for work but thought I would switch it up a little after seeing some whetstone videos. Bought a King 1000/6000 grit stone but hated having to soak it before every use so I decided to buy s Shapton Glass Stone and am very happy. This thing is quick and easy to use. Just add some water and you're ready to go.
