Fantastic duffle coat
I had been searching quite a while for a nice duffle coat, and am really happy with this one. First off, it's made in England, which is a huge plus. Secondly, while it has a bit more polyester in the blend than a Gloverall duffle coat does, it is significantly less expensive as a result. It also has a slightly more modern fit than a Gloverall, which I like. Overall, it is a fantastic duffle coat that hits all the marks perfectly.A word on sizing. I am 5'10" tall, weight 160 lbs., have a 31" waist, and usually wear a 40R jacket. I bought the Montgomery coat in two sizes - 40 and 38 - because I wasn't sure which one would fit better. The 40 was definitely too large, but the 38 fits perfectly in the chest, shoulders, and torso. Originally, duffle coats were designed to be rather large and to fit as such. Today, though, people tend to want a more flattering look. If you are a bit thicker around the torso or if you plan on wearing your coat over a blazer or sports coat, then I think going with your usual size should be perfect. However, keep in mind that, like traditional duffle coats, this one isn't lined. As a result, it will be a chore to get it to slip over a sports coat. I don't plan on wearing mine that way, so I decided to return the 40 and keep the 38, which fits nicely even with a thick wool cardigan underneath.Like traditional duffle coats, the sleeves are on the long side. Again, this was how they were originally designed back in the day as well. The sleeves hit me right about at the base of my thumb bone. For my tastes, that's too long, so I took mine to a tailor to have shortened by about 3/4". As for the overall length of the coat, it hits me a few inches above my knee, between mid-thigh and knee length. That's exactly perfect for me.Overall, this is a fantastic coat. I would highly recommend it! Sizing is between spot-on and one size too large, depending on how you intend to wear it.

A Great value, and exceptional customer service
I had been looking for a Duffle Coat since I was a lieutenant serving in Europe in the early 1980s. The CO of a British regiment with whom I trained had one and the seed was planted. 31 years later, I have one that looks and feels every bit as good as the one I saw and I have a feeling it will last at least that long for me.Like other reviewers, I was amazed to have this coat arrive via DHL within 36 hours of placing the order. It looked and felt great over my t-shirt but felt like it would be snug with shirts and sweaters underneath. The bag said "42", the receipts said "42" but the coat tag on the item itself said "40". Uh oh. Packing error.I communicated directly to the company, they immediately sent a postage paid label so I could send it back, which I did. Amazon promptly refunded my purchase (un asked!) so when the replacement was ready to ship, the company asked me to order direct, and, with the exchange rate, I ended up spending less than I had spent through Amazon. And DHL had my new, right-sized coat here in 25 hours! 11 hours faster. The emails from the company were extremely prompt, highly personalized and expressed genuine concern and desire to make it right. When it seemed some emails from them were not getting through (spam filter) the customer service agent called and left me a voicemail informing me of the fact so I could check that folder. Service like this is rare and I appreciate it very much. The quality of this item is first rate. Long sleeve shirts and sweaters go underneath with no problems but I wore it out over just a shirt last weekend and it didn't swallow me up. It is substantial without weighing like a goose. Like a Filson coat or a Col. Littleton belt or portfolio, this coat almost needs to be "roughed up" so it can look less like something from a catalog and more like something of a grainy photograph of an SAS officer wearing it in 1942 North Africa. Other famous label makers in the US, with a reputation for heirloom quality merchandise ask more than 2 times the price and I am willing to bet for no better quality. I am willing to bet one of my sons will get this coat when I am dead and buried. But until then...

Quality coat, great customer service
I absolutely love this coat! Nice heavy wool, attractive pattern lining, and great looks! For those unfamiliar with duffle coats, these have a traditional fit with extra room around the torso for layering. The hood is also fairly large, a bit too large for my bare head but fits nicely over my (chunky) beanie. I'm 5'9" and the coat comes down to just above my knees.I originally purchased this version with the leather/horn toggles, but found myself wishing for the rope/wood toggles instead - I liked the look of the rope & wood contrasting with the dark navy coat. After emailing Montgomery of England's customer service, they provided me with an exchange form, and I sent the coat to their NY warehouse. Unfortunately I received no response for a couple weeks, so I emailed customer service again. Apparently I had confused their exchange process, as I was an Amazon customer I wasn't supposed to send it to their warehouse, but I'm not sure where I should have sent it instead, maybe to Amazon? Customer service told me they were communicating across departments to get me my exchange. They were prompt in sorting it out and I was sent the exchange coat. I'm very happy with my coat!

Nice coat, but sizing and color off
Solid design - well made, warm, and a great look. Unfortunately it runs fairly large - drop 2 inches off your actual tailor measurement. Additionally, the navy runs extremely dark, to the point that it's indistinguishable from black. It's still a good coat, but for $350, I'd expect them to get the details right.
