Post Lantern Gas Lamp Conversion Kit | Convert A Gas Light to Dusk-to-Dawn LED Bulbs

Been looking for something to replace a gas lamp post our neighborhood makes you have. Thought it was a waste to burn gas all day. This light works great and looks good. Was easy to install, recommend to anyone.

Used this to convert my gas lantern post to an electric “flame” when my gas line sprang a leak. My electrician did the conversion for me, running it to the garage electrical outlet. Works great and provides a nice light.

Worked well

I used the kit to swap out parts from a 20 year-old low-voltage yard light at church that had corroded and was unfixable (it had been converted from gas 20 years ago). All these parts worked well and the LED lights are an excellent improvement for lighting the steps in front of the church.

Worked like a charm to revive my parent's old yard lamp. Now I have it sitting in MY backyard, providing nostalgia and light. The quality was as presented in the photos on Amazon, and it installed in the old lamp within minutes. It took longer to get the unit in place than it did to get the old parts apart. For my setup, I just spliced some wire into my existing 12V landscaping circuit near one of my existing yard lights, and it works just fine without having to use the 24V power brick. The LED lights that came with look like original gas from a distance (based on my memory). It's very enjoyable to be able to re-use my parent's lamp. As for ease of use - this thing was very easy to implement. It perfectly fit inside of the existing lamp without and modification. For the price of $100, it allowed me to install a great looking addition to my backyard for way less than it would have cost to buy an entirely new lantern. I'm very happy with it so far.

Let me begin with the preface that I did plenty of research before buying this conversion kit. I was originally designing my own gas to electric lamp conversion fixture, but when I came across this kit online it was an easy decision to use it - all of the features I was busy pricing out were included in the package!The old 1960s gas lamp in our yard was looking pathetic, and had not been used in decades. After a prime and paint to match our downstairs window trim, and a low wattage update, it looks pretty classy. The Charm-Lite fixture was the perfect elegant touch to make this possible.Our lamp post is subordinately switched by a motion sensor on the front porch, but only if the included Charm-Lite daylight sensor thinks it is dark enough outside.The only problem I came across was with the 120V to 24V transformer. The first one I received had a bad primary winding. It does not have circuit protection for incoming electricity, but does provide a thermal protection for devices powered by the transformer. I included a picture of the output circuit from the secondary winding, showing the PTC thermal fuse (brown square). You may want to add a fuse or conditioning before your transformer if your home electrical system is not as it should be. I called Charm-Lite (excellent and speedy customer service), and was presented with some troubleshooting suggestions. Ultimately they shipped me a replacement transformer, which arrived quickly. The conversion kit worked out perfectly for my gas lamp. The installation was easy. I did not use the included power supply but instead tied it in to my landscape lights. They are getting 12V in series so not as bright as they could be, but I may rewire them in parallel to get the full brightness. Overall, very pleased.

The fixture had to be trimmed to stand vertical at 90*, and it doesn’t mount as solid as I would prefer. A huge headache is cleaning the glass panes every two weeks. Now that there is no heat produced, the light attracts bugs and spiders.
