The Goon Volume 1: A Ragged Return to Lonely Street
I**S
An unexpectedly disappointing read
It's interesting how Powell has a strong dislike towards his older Goon works and called this a new beginning of sorts for Goon and the wide array of side characters around him and yet...And yet all these issues are one the weakest Goon stories I've read. They fail both on the narrative AND the humorous side of things, feeling like light one-offs that you flip through and forget without any memorable experiences left. That is also incredibly weird considering how good his other recent work, Hillbilly, was. The only redeeming factor I found in this volume is the art (I mean, it's Powell, the guy is a darn talented artist, there is no taking that) which was a big let down for a long time Goon fan like me. Maybe it will get better the more it goes but I already lost all interest in this new "soft-reboot" of the beloved comic series.
