I have been searching for good puzzles for toddlers. I am a developmental specialist and work with infants and toddlers with special needs. I look for easy puzzles that have pieces that are easy for toddlers to pick up. I have always loved Melissa & Doug puzzles because they are always so well made and typically very age appropriate. I need puzzles that are sturdy and hold up well. I toss them in bags and in my trunk so they have to be able to take a good beating. Finding a simple shape puzzle that little toddlers hands can handle is not always the easiest. One of the assessment instruments I use, asks about toddlers being able to put shapes in puzzles. I am so excited to have found this one. It really seems to be a hit with kids.I really like this shape puzzle and have been recommending it to parents. Here are the things that I really like about this puzzle and using it for toddlers:- The puzzle has bright colors. This is great when using with young children to keep their attention.- When you take the puzzle piece out, the picture underneath is the same color as the shape piece.- The pieces are thick chunky pieces so even though it doesn't have the little knobs on top, small, uncoordinated hands can get them in and out.- The entire puzzle piece is painted so that there is not any raw wood showing.I have been using this a ton and the kids really seem to love it. I love that some of the shapes are super easy to get in, like the circle, so that children with a lot of difficulty with puzzles can feel like they are successful.

Great for learning basic shapes and colors. Chunky pieces are good for little hands. Good quality toy.

Bought this for my toddler after she struggled with other shape focused toys. I wanted something that had an image to match the puzzle piece because it makes it easier for her and this was perfect! She was much more interactive with it and didn’t get frustrated which made it easier to teach her the names of the different shapes. The pieces are nice and chunky for her hands to handle. I also like the simple terms for the shapes as I felt others had too complex shape names.

The media could not be loaded. These puzzles are great beginner puzzles for small children. They are great for both shape and color recognition. We also hide these in the sensory bins and look for the shapes.Anything Melissa and Doug is good quality and built to last with kids.

We got this puzzle for our son several months back to help him start to identify shapes and colors. We have been very happy with it and how it helped him.The shapes are solid wood but not too heavy that a child couldn't pick them up. The colors are vibrant making it easy to identify the different shapes and their places on the puzzle board. The pieces are also pretty thick making it easy for them to be slid into place without falling out.Nothing bad to say. Overall we are very happy with how this helped our son early on with his shapes. Melissa & Doug make a quality product that you will be happy with as well.

My 18 month old son loves this puzzle, although it only took him a few days to be able to master it. I do like the colors, quality and the fact that I can teach him shapes and colors at the same time. We love Melissa and Doug puzzles and we liked adding this one to our collection. The shapes are solid wood and the puzzle itself is a thick piece of wood which is nice because it is not flimsy.
